Tonight's a very common title - almost impossible to guess.

These are the 70s - 80s songs I have with that title:

    Peabo Bryson (1988)
    Kool & The Gang (1983)
    David Peaston (1989)
    Ready For The world (1985)
    The Whispers (1983)
    Fatback (1988) (spelled Tonite)

Kool's probably the most famous of them all - might be that one :-?

    Hey Dermot,

I think we could probably use just a little more information as there are waaay tooo many songs with TONIGHT as part of the title.

You said late '70s or early 80s. Was it male or female? Fast or slow? Electro? Live musicians? Whatever you got to narrow the field. :)

(Please take note that my post and K-Bee's are just 2-seconds apart. I'm not trying to beat up on you :) . His just dropped first.)

    Tonight? tonite?

    Hi people
Sorry about the delay getting back to you but we really are working on a world wide debate (not to say dispute) here.
WE THINK, the artist is female with a one word name.
WE ARE NEARLY SURE the first word of every line is a short sharp "Tonight" or "Tonite" and half of us think that the end of every middle eight there is a long drawn out "Tonnniiiggghhhttt"
I know all my friends are lunatics, but that's better than being muggers I suppose. On the other hand????

Wild guess. Check out "Dance Yourself Dizzy" by Liquid Gold. It repeats the phrase "Tonight!" over and over. Most of the verse lines begin with a short "Tonight!"

"Tonight! will be a boogie oogie night" is one of the lines. I once transcribed the whole lyric here for someone. Sometime last summer I think. It should be in the archives here.

Nancy Martinez had a "For Tonight"--a sorta Latinsh early 80's tune that was a big dance fave.

That's what comes to my mind.

Another previusly debated song is "Tonite" by SHO-NUFF and its twin version "Love me tonight" by Fern Kinney. Both on Malaco from 1981

    It's a longshot,but could it be...

Tonight - One Way featuring Al Hudson (1979)

The vocal is sung by Alicia Myers.

    ...perhaps?
