Well that was interesting cause I learned something I never knew like...

    1) I had no idea that the Partridge Family, Marie Osmond, and Shaun Cassidy were ever nominated for Grammies. (Interesting that the Partridge Family was nominated as the only people who sang on their records was David Cassidy and Shirley Jones and the others were session singers Tom & John Bahler, Jackie Hicklin and one other lady who's name escapes me at the moment.)

    2) Who are: Chase, Brecker Brothers, Chris Rea? Never heard of these people/groups?

    3) Is Knack the group sometimes referred to as "The Knack" (aka "My Sharona)?

    4) Is Robin Williams the actor or a singer with the same name?

Re the 1977 nominees, Debbie Boone likely got it over sales for "You Light Up My Life" as this song was absolutely huge that year.

Yup, it was absolutely massive, and I think it was the biggest-selling song of the decade or something crazy like that.

What I find astonishing is that I have not heard the song ever since then. Every other mega-hit that I can think of still gets played today -- even Milli Vanilli are kosher to spin on retro radio now -- but it has been almost 30 years since I have heard "You Light Up My Life".

:icon_mrgreen: THIS IS YOUR LUCKY DAY :icon_mrgreen:

(fear not ...another posting ....but w/ poorer sound)

now what was it about this song .....those endless luscious swirling strings right up until the last note ?

    perhaps

But I think in this record is what is found in American Idol that gives it its similar appeal . That youthful voice exploring and reaching for its potential to emulate that which comes from within. Pure and simple and unpretentiously beautiful.:icon_biggrin:

Chris Rea had a hit with "Fool, If You Think It's Over" Chase? Brecker Brothers? Never heard of them either. Yep, that's The Knack and Robin Williams(the actor) had a comedy album that year I believe. Best New Artist? Can hardly believe he's a comedy actor.
