I knew I'd stumbled across something like this before. The page says it was 1979, so it could've been, either the "Amercian Generation" girls, or the "Bad Reputation" girls. Hard to tell from the photo, below. In Europe the groups weren't connected to TK and/or Casablanca. Only to Morali & Belolo. Morali was a great promotions Man. I'll give him credit for that! He got both of his top acts featured in 2 movies, in under a year.
Jussik, are you saying there's a vinyl soundtrack to this movie? If so, I'll start hunting.
All I could find was that apparently While forming the rest of the Village People, Morali & Belolo sent Felipe to The Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris, to choreograph a number for their dancers. I dunno... Sounds a little like a bogus press-release to me. Meant to focus on the dancer reputation, while distracting from the fact that they discovered him, dancing on the bar at The Anvil.
P.S. I worked at The Anvil for about 8-10 weeks, from late '82, into '83. Snagging only one, steady, night-a-week. (Can't remember who the main DJ was, but he had that gig locked-up tighter than a safe, for years!) Oh, Lord! What a fun job that was! My boss was a dick! (Yellow-blonde, tall, skinny guy - sort-of like a redneck version of Peter Berlin - who worked the front door.) But the staff and the crowd were awesome!
P.P.S. This story is just for fun, cuz every great memory weaves into another one...:icon_razz:
I saw Chili Pepper at The Anvil, for the first time, on a night I was working. She did "Don't Leave Me This Way" and, by the end of the number, she was in a straight-jacket, make-up all smeared, in the fetal-position, at the back corner of the stage! Just lip-syncin' and twitchin' through the fade-out. It was brilliant!
So good that, years later, when I did my 1st drag benefit number, I remembered it and went the psycho route, too. Doing Laura Branigan's "Solitare" in full white wedding gown and gloves. At the end, taking out a stilletto and cutting the fake blood-bags hidden in the wrists of the gloves, when she hits the high note (twice) at the end of the Hot Tracks mix. I "died" on stage and they were friggin' throwin' money on me!
GOD! HOW I LOVED WORKIN' IN DISCOS!
