I guess it won't hurt to throw out a few suggestions.
Magazine 60 - Don Quichotte
Art of Noise - Close (To The Edit)
Dominatrix - The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight
Hello,
around the same time "Don't you want me baby" was successful (I guess 1983 or possibly 1982) there was a track that was vaguely similar to that song, but with remarkable differences:
- only instrumental (electronic), no voice;
- less melodic;
- even more electronic, and harder;
- in spite of that, the tempo (if I can remember well) was slightly lower;
- often hard chords could be heard (with strong echo/delay), possibly from a distorted guitar, but more probably made by electronic keyboards.
Any clue?
Thanks,
Fabrcop

Magazine 60 - Don Quichotte

Dominatrix - The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight
Thanks for the suggestions, but none of them is the one I am looking for, that does not contain vocals at all (it's only instrumental).
Also, the track may be described somewhat as a "space disco" (or "space pop" or "space rock") as the Rockets used to be in the late 1970's, but this one is without vocals, and even more electronic than the Rockets (more like early 1980's electronic disco).
I feel it was even more famous than the songs you suggested (at least in Italy and Europe).
Thanks again.

Can anybody else help me?
Thanks.

Why not listen to the Human league instrumental version of Hard times and Loveaction ?
Thanks. I have listened to them but none is the track I am looking for.
More clues: it was something in between the Rockets (space / science-fiction- like music), Howard Jones, and "Don't you want me baby", but it was only instrumental (no vocals at all).
It was also vaguely similar to Koto - Chinese Revenge ( YouTube - KOTO - Chinese Revenge ), but less ethnic than this one, and harder, more electronic and more space/Rockets like.
Thanks
Fabrcop
A wild guess... it might be 'I'm So Hot For You' by Bobby O? It has a similiar synth melody like 'Don't You Want Me Baby'.
Womb Prayer!
The only one that springs to mind with heavy guitar-like sounding chords is Herbie Hancock's Rockit and it was slower too.
Just my 2 cents (but it can be a lot of records IMO)
Jah Wobble?
But I guess I didn't win a prize here.
No, skip that one, you don't mean Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase" don't you?
Thanks everybody for the suggestions.
None of the suggested is the track I am looking for.
However, I can say that:
The Chase (Giorgio Moroder) is similar, both for the overall atmosphere and for the electronic sound.
Don't you want me baby (Human League) is also similar, but it is too fast and has vocals.
I'm So Hot for You (Bobby O), just as the Don't you want me baby, is similar, but it is too fast and has vocals. The keyboards are very similar (both the pad and the synth hard bass).
Less similar are:
Chinese Revenge (Koto). The rhythm/tempo is perfect, also the atmosphere is vaguely similar, but it is too "ethnic".
Rockit (Herbie Hancock). Only the hard guitar and the rhythm/tempo are somewhat similar.
Hard Times (Human League). Just as electronic, similar keyboards, but overall not very similar.
Don Quichotte (Magazine). As the previous one. And, as said, there are no vocals at all in the track I am looking for.
How much are they (Jah Wobble). Only the keyboards pads are similar.
New suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
Dirty Talk by Klein & MBO ?
More guesses:
Disco Energy by Universal Energy?
Visions by Blue Vision?
Womb Prayer!
Unfortunately, it is neither
"Dirty Talk" by Klein & MBO
nor
"Disco Energy" by Universal Energy.
I have never heard and I am not able to find
"Visions" by Blue Vision.
May I find even a short sample (a few seconds) anywhere?
Thanks again
I uploaded a sample for you

However, having just listened to this I don't think it's what you're after!
Womb Prayer!
Really thanks for your help.
It was not that track (Visions).
By the way, when you say:
> having just listened to this
I imagine you are talking about the new (midi file) I uploaded a few hours ago:
http://www.discomusic.com/forums/ask...al-1983-a.html
Thanks again
Fabrcop
No I hadn't listened to your midi file... now I'm more confused than ever. Sounds very familiar, but damned if I can think of anything! Sorry.
Womb Prayer!
I couldn't listen to your midi file - it didn't work. Anyway, here are two new suggestions:
The insrumental universal mix of Time (Has Come Today) which is the b-side to the vocal mix of Time by Bobby Davenport.
The instrumental version of Doctor's Cat Watch Out.
Well, now that I'm typing this I don't think that any of these two is not the one you're after I'm afraid.
It's really hot - stop!!! Saaaay: Magnifique!
