The only late 80's song that immediately comes to mind (but it's not an instrumental only) is CCCP - American Soviets
the song was unique in its "egyptian" or indian melody combined with a strong synth backbeat. It was very popular house music and also aired on the radio.

Try Egyptian Lover's "Egypt Egypt" this was popular in the mid 80's with the "freestyle" crowds.
Although this is not 'house' music, more like techno funk similar to Soul sonic Force/Planet Patrols' "Planet Rock".
How about that Ofra Haza track? Imini A Lu (or something like that :icon_lol:)
Middle eastern feel and 100 electronic. Fairly big dance hit too around 1988.
Thanks for all the posts...I am new to this forum, but it's great to hear your replies. I'm still looking though...the song was 100% instrumental, but I need a crash course on the different subgenre to use the right terms:icon_confused:
Right! The name was "Im nin' alu". Ofra Haza first did the beautiful original traditional rendition, then the remixes came out, which were sampled all over the place, and made her famous outside of Israel. There was an instrumental version, which might be what you're looking for.
Hashim's "Al Naafiysh (The Soul)" is breakbeat, and not really oriental other than the name; just dropping it in case. also sampled a lot
...Boogie Boogie Boogie Boogaaaaaay.....
