If I'm not mistaken, Crown Heights Affair was or recorded in Irvington, N.J.; Dr. Buzzard Savannah's Band also recorded its Cher-Chez la Femme album in West Orange or Irvington N.J.

Some of the clubs I frequented in Jersey were Fountain Casino, Brothers III (later became Mingle), Soap Factory (later Dacing),

Strawberry Patch---only went here a couple of times, Fire & Ice (later La Elegante), and

Shanghi's Red---this one had the best chicks.

    Went to school.

I also went to Journal Square in Jersey City for my computer education.

I too frequented many of those clubs plus, Poor Billy's and The Palace in Elizabeth.

Gloria Gaynor, Van McCoy and Vince Montana are all from New Jersey.
I\'ve been into the disco phenomeon since 1976. I hustle dance on a regular basis and write a weekly newsletter on dancing and where to go call \"DanceTalk\".

Write me if you would like to recieve it. The majority of the topics revolve around Philly Pa.

Yes, Elizabeth is now a third world Banana Republic. Crime is rampant. Anyway, DJ Fernie lives in Miami now.

    Lee,

Sorry to hear about your partner's death. I truly enjoyed those clubs and that time in my life. Elizabeth was alot classier than it is now. I am going back to NJ for Thanksgiving.

    Fellow,

That's Park Avenue in Winter Park, Florida. Yes, I live nearby so I drive past the Avenue a lot. And I grew up in Winter Park. You wouldn't recognize it now! Trendy chain stores are everywhere. But now they have competition with the new Winter Park Village that was built on the grounds of the old Winter Park Mall. Talk about trendy! They have a Cheesecake Factory there, a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, a 20 theatre movie complex, etc. That place took a bunch of business away from Park Avenue, to the point where they are talking about having a shuttle from Park Ave. to the Village so people can visit both!

Let me tell you how "trendy" Winter Park is: The only time you see white people on a city bus is when it's turned into a shuttle for three days during the Winter Park Art Festival to take the la-de-dah crowd to the art show. Now, the city wants to tear down 21 black people's homes to put a water tower or plant there. Some of these folks have lived there for 30 years! In fact, many of the homes in Winter Park's "West Side" have been razed and million dollar condos put in their place along with office buildings and restaurants. Yeah, let's just take the black folks homes. Oops. How did I get off on a rant?! Sorry!

When were you here? ...And what were you doing?

    Lean,

My parents moved there from Jersey in 1980.

I lived in Winter Park off of Goldenrod RD. I lived there from 1980 to 1982 and worked at the Atamonte Mall in the "Merry GO Round" clothes store. I had a great time while I lived in Fla. During that time I graduated from Winter park High School- and had alot of girl friends.... ah the memories of new symrna beach.

I took the kids to Disney a few years back went I went to my old house I found the orange groves that was behind it gone. Yep, Winter park & Orlando did change quite a bit.

After 82, I joined the Air Force and went t the Philippines for 4 years..... and that story is just too fantastic to tell, unless you have been there;)

    Fellow,

Well I'll be damned! I went to Winter Park Jr. High and Winter Park High School! 1974 grad though. In 1971 they put a chain link fence around it to keep the drugs out but guess what -- they only fenced them in! Some things never change.

And yes, New Smyrna Beach is still my favorite over Daytona. It's more rustic. A storm came through and took out several feet of beach so we're all concerned about the erosion now. And, part of A1A is closed over by Cocoa Beach because of security issues around Patrick Air Force Base.

Oh yeah, one more thing about Winter Park: There is an old hotel at the end of Morse Blvd. near the Scenic Boat Tour called the Lincoln Hotel that was built in 1925. It has a Spanish style to it and is a landmark of Winter Park. A former mayor still lives there. The new owners are a church and they plan to tear it down! I am just heartsick over all the destruction of "Olde" Winter Park! All the landmarks of my youth have been torn down and there seems to be no end of it. All in the name of not wanting to make land and home owners feel like they can't do what they want with their property. Which I believe in too, but there should have been some forethought to certain buildings before just letting them go to any buyer. The very fabric of the city is being torn apart little by little.

The Union City area was my favorite hangout, but one must not forget the Route 35 area down South---it was happening too.
