Claps on Chic's ''Chic Cheer'' (1978)

- Is there a real audience clapping their hands?

- Did the claps come from a tape recording?

Only Nile Rodgers and Bernie Edwards know that

Davey Johnstone said that the claps came from a tape recording and it was also simulated by Nigel Olsson:

“We thought ‘Bennie and the Jets’ was a really odd song”, says Davey. “We never thought in a million years it would be a single. [Producer] Gus Dudgeon was really responsible for the song’s sound. He used the audience from Jimi Hendrix’s performance on the Isle of Wight to kick it off—that’s the audience clapping for Jimi to come back onstage. And he put that weird ambience on Nigel’s drums.
