I got to talk to CELI BEE on the phone!

Thanks to another member here letting me know Celi Bee's real name (Celida) I was able to do a little searching and stalking until I found her number. Celi Bee has always been one of my favorites, so I called her up! I spoke with her for a few minutes. She still sounds great! She sounds young! Her voice is as good as new, although she did not offer to sing for me. She said that shes still a teacher. She also said that her favorite album / song was Fly me on the wings of Love. I told her that I my all time favorite song by her is One Love. She responded, "Oh, that was from the first album".

I asked her if she would still make any new songs, but she made it clear that those days are over, and that she now just wants to take care of her kids and teach as a music teacher in some school. she said that shes been teaching there for 16 years!
I asked her if she still had the short hair and she said "yes, I’ve always kept it short." I also asked her if she made a lot of money when Hot Productions released her CDs. She said that she did not make one penny. Shame on Hot Productions!
I asked her if anyone else ever called her out of the blue like this but she said that I’m the first one ever. I made it obvious that I’m a fan and that I would like to meet her some day, since we live in the same general area. But she did not seem too enthused about this idea, to my disappointment. I asked her why her name wasn’t on the back of any of her records but she wasn’t sure.

Im sure I asked her a couple other questions but I have a very bad memory. Overall, it was really cool to be able to talk to her as I’ve been a fan of her music for many years! I’ve always wanted to do this. She was happy and polite to me, but I sensed a little bit of her wanting to cut the conversation short so I had to say goodbye. I personally would have liked to chat longer and learn more about her. I could have talked much longer.

I didn’t tell her that I was going to post what we talked about like this, but I’m sure she would be flattered. Are there any other questions you want me to ask her? I can call her again and ask her. Next time Ill let her know about this post, though.

    In a word: No.

Enjoy that moment you had with her and move on.

It sounds to me like she's moved on with her life, and she was just being polite with you on the phone. Unless you're planning on interviewing her for a CD release or a magazine, you should probably just throw that phone number away and leave things be with her.

Just a little friendly advice, because any further contact with her might burst your bubble. I've heard of people who had nasty encounters with celebrities that permanently ruined their opinion of them.

But thanks for the interesting story! At least you had a nice, but brief, time with your musical idol!

yes, i agree, leave the nice woman alone. unless she is forthcoming in expressing her interest in attending, then out of decorum you should undoubtedly refrain from asking her. it's all about respect.

Not to be rude ,but what you did was invade her privacy,If she had wanted to contact the press or schedule an interview she knows exactly what sources to contact
As to the issue of you calling her again. That would border on stalking.Even when I do an interview via phone I dont contact the artist again unless they say to me Dayna girl,Lets keep in touch... .

What everyone else said. It's very clear that she doesn't wish to be contacted again.

You are making a *lot* of dangerous assumptions here. We have no idea what her feelings are about that period of her life. For all we know, it may have been a very difficult time for her. In any event, it's a bit much to expect someone to want to discuss things that happened 30 years ago. Obviously, she has moved on.

Your belief that she'd be "flattered" by all this is dangerous one. Publically posting the details of a private conversation without her knowledge was a big mistake and a blatant invasion of her privacy. If she'd known you were going to do this, she might not have spoken to you at all.

Do not call her back. If you are going to have any further contact with her, it should be an apology sent through the mail.

Before the days of internet (in the late 80s) when here in Brazil information about DISCO artists and discographies was non-existent, I did the same thing as you:

I found out the LAURIN RINDER's phone number through a brazilian phone service (I was trying WILLIAM MICHAEL LEWIS, but it didn't work: there were hundreds of william michael lewisss, but only one Laurin Rinder). So I phone Laurin to ask for his adress :icon_eek: :icon_eek::icon_eek: so I could write to make a few questions about his disco projects.

When he answered the phone, I was nervous trying to explain him (in my awful spoken english) that I was calling from Brazil and I was a fan. He interrupted me and asked me how I got his phone number. I explained him and (fortunately) he believed in me. From that point on he was very friendly, nice and warm. At the end of the phone call he really gave me his adress in Los Angeles.

I still keep his number and adress, but needles to say that I did not call him anymore. Although he was very polite with me, I wouldn't dare a second time (for privacy reasons for him).

In your case, what you could do is to forward CELI BEE an e-mail to see if she was interested in doing an interview for this site. if positive you would give her phone and maybe Bernie would call.

It appears that she is no longer Celi Bee and has gotten over that time period in her life and who she was at that time. Now she is Ma, grandma, and just a normal taxpaying citizen.

I wouldn't call her back either. I either read or was told that she was a lesbian back in the day, and maybe she changed and is now a different person (kind of like Linda Lovelace?). So she is flattered, gracious and thankful for you, us, and the memories, but now just wants to be left alone.

Contacting stars is indeed tricky business. I would never call somebody if by chance I got this person's phonenumber.

I use the same tactic as Dayna. If a star connects (and some of them do) it's all about trust and making good appointments. If a star says: "Do keep in touch", then you know that they are interested or that they really want a renewed contact. F.i. D.C. Larue! He can be contacted via his official site, he does reply personally and he's a wonderful and warm person! So are many others that I got to know over the years but again, it's about trust! Once you break that rule, you just can forget it. It's a small world you know!

And then there's the question of going public! If a star communicates something to me, I always and I do stress ALWAYS ask 'em if this can be published. If they say "no" then it stays with me!

So this case is very different I'm afraid, where you just phone somebody who doesn't know you.

So, cherish that moment but leave her in peace now .
