    Soul Alive-WPIX-TV, N.Y. 1978

Does anybody remember this show? It aired on Ch. 11 WPIX in NYC in 1978. Aside from Miss Holloway's recognizable tune, what is the first song being played? I've never heard it before, and it sounds great!

I actually danced on this show..once!! The guest artist that day was Deniece Williams who performed "Free"...Don't remember much more than that, except I recall thinking as I walked onto the set.."My goodness..it looks so small"!!

(RickLamb5160) I was on The Soul Alive dance show in New York City back in January of 1978. The show began originally for New York City High Schools. Each Saturday Soul Alive would show case a High School, their students, a DJ of the week from that school. The D.J was nicknamed: S.I.D. for the School Information Desk. S.I.D. would do voiceovers for video clips that made each school unique. I was the DJ of the week when Al Green was on the show. He sang Belle (a ballard) and an up-tempo song.
It was filmed in what was at the time WPIX TV's news room on 42nd Street, Midtown Manhattan. You could see the weather maps and news desks behind the mirrored panels that they used for the show. They would film 2 one hour shows every Saturday. It took about 6 to 7 hours to film each of those 1 hour shows. The weekend that my High School (LaGuardia Middle College H.S., the one on the campus of LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens, New York) was filmed, they also filmed Food & Maritime High School right afterwards. Their musical guests were The Manhattans. They only filmed a handful of the High School episodes then changed the format by dropping the “High Schoolers” and adding professional dancers.
If anyone out here has any video footage or information as to where it can be obtained, please contact via email address below.

I'm really interested in the Soul Alive episode with Al Green as the musical guest.

    Thank you,
    Rick Lamb
