I'm just now starting to transfer my VHS tapes onto DVDs

(go ahead and laugh, I'm sure most of you have been doing it for years...I'm a bit slow with new technology). I was wondering if, when most of you do these transfers, you try to create a "theme" for each disc. For example, a disc of nothing but dance-themed films, a disc of only comedies, a disc of suspense films, that kind of thing. Thanks.

    Don't feel bad.

It would take 36 hours a day to do all I want.

Unfortunately as the years go by, I gradually have to drop some projects forever.

My priority is to concentrate on audio transfers (until a further change of mind).

I did a few video transfers but I find it a lot more time consuming than an audio CD (i.e.: capturing the video in real time, triming the sequences, splitting them into chapters and encoding the DVD).

So far I have transferred a few episodes of "retro boogie dance party" from a Canadian dance show that used to be aired in the late seventies.

But the few items that I have completed so far do not justify any filing system...

It depends on the quality that you're looking for. A DVD disc with a single layer can hold up to 8 hours of video depending on the DVD burner, but the quality decreases significantly as you try to squeeze on more stuff. I'd recommend just using a 2 or 3 hour setting, but if it's just music videos, go for the highest quality (1 hour).

I'd also recommend getting a S-VHS player. Do some research to see what's best for you. They'll do a nicer job of smoothing out edges of the video image of even EP mode recorded tapes from back in the day. I spend almost $200 dollars for one off ebay a year or two ago, and I've never regretted it!

    I'm in the same boat!
Haven't even started to transfer anything!
    VHS continuing to gather dust!!

Least I know I'm in the right place to get advice once I get round to doing it!
