Once the regular competition begins, I will start watching and will have opinions on the performers. I haven't really been watching the tryouts as I find most of the wannabees annoying.
Well the show kicked off here in the UK on ITV2 and this year we get two shows a week - one on Thursday and one on Fridays!! We also don't have Cat Deeley (thank God) doing annoying indents. Initial thoughts are that Simon seems to have mellowed, Randy's got harder and Paula's a little bit more normal than usual.

I'm glad Josiah didn't make it to the top 24, he was starting to get on my nerves.
I have a feeling the rock and roll nurse may wear thin too. Every song she sings is going to sound like a Janis Joplin wail.
I just watched the repeat of the Top 24 show....to be honest I am not 'as close' to the show this year as in previous years. It's difficult to call at this stage for me - whereas the past three years I had already said who was going to win!!
I'll try next week - I guess we'll get it on Thursday & Fridays. I like the rocker girl...as well as the Irish girl & the Austrailian bloke - Michael Lockwood - so far.
Now that they've narrowed it down to the top 24 contestants, I took a look at last night's show focussing on the 12 guys in the competition. There is some great talent this year...I liked at least 8 out of the 12 performances...really good stuff.
But it's definitely all about that youngun on there. His name is David Archuleta....17 years old....and a star in the making. He just simply has fantastic natural vocal talent but it was when he chatted a bit afterwards with Ryan Seacrest that did it for me. He seemed somewhat bewildered at just what happened when he mentioned that getting on that stage in front of the larger audience captivated him...he was meant to be there. I compare it to what it must have been like when Streisand or Minnelli had that first big performance. It was thrilling to watch...nothing phoney or manipulated...a rare moment for television lately.

Of the four that went off last night, I predicted the two girls and Garrett. I was surprised that Colton got the boot and would have picked the guy that sang "Moon River" or Chickizee (however you spell his name).
Yeah, those first four didn't stand a chance. The guy singing Moon River was a real disappointment...couldn't believe it when he chose this song to compete. It was a flashback to Pat Boone/Tab Hunter days (not that I was around then by the way) He'll be gone next week.
Do you think the stories they tell at the start are real or something phoney to tug at the heartstrings? Jeesh...the one girl sold her beloved horse for the chance to compete and with her winnings, hopes to buy it back! She was one who was lucky she wasn't voted off this time with her forgettable attempt at Rescue Me.

For those interested , American Idol Rewind (FOX) will air its "disco night" episode from the season that featured Ruben and Clay Aikin next Saturday March 1, at 7:00 PM .
At least, that's the case for here in the LA market.

Do you think there is less interest in the show this year than in previous years? Did Sanjaya kill it for everybody?:icon_biggrin:
hello everyone :D
as mentioned above... I pretty much agree with all that was said. David Archuletta is a crack up, i'll be looking forward to him being on stage.
I don't have a favorite because there's around 6 that i'm rooting for at the moment... i'll wait and see how it unfolds towards the top 12.

Shall we just award the AMmy to David and get it over with ..

I'm getting very strong gay vibes from Miss Danny Noreiga.
I've had a bit of a bad week so missed the boys but caught the girls...I think Carly Smithson as well as that boy David will be the finalists...although I do like the rock chick girl - Amanda Overmyer!
the ladies had a rough week... nothing really special from any of them.
the men however had some great moments from the favorites.
Michael Johns - Go Your Own Way
David Cook - Alright Now
&
David Archuletta - Imagine (was good but not a WOW moment for me...)
Rumor has it that David Hernandez worked as a stripper in a gay bar.

Well to whomever goes this week ..... thanks for trying whatever your names were !! :icon_biggrin::icon_mrgreen: :icon_lol:
Kind of a swirl of similars this year especially amongst the ladies .... all want to be singstresses but not sure any of them really know why . To be "a star" I guess .
Did you notice how the judges were having a hard time taking the night seriously ....
Well amongst all of the songs of the eighties they had to choose from .... who'd have thought this one by Lionel Richie would be the one to impress me the most ...... and by this particular contestant no less.
I found the interpretation really clever .... rather moving :

finally a show worth talking about!
David Cook - Eleanor Rigby
Carly Smithson - Come Together
had solid performances but Chikeze stold the show with rendition of "She's A Woman" fun to watch.
in the bottom 3 this week:
Syesha Mercado
David Hernandez
Ramiele Malubay
Although David Archuleta butchered "We Can Work It Out" I still enjoy having him around. However, he was exposed that he is limited vocally and needs more time to develope.
Kristy Lee Cook shouldn't be in trouble because she's the only solid choice for country music enthusists. She does have it vocally... but the judges were slightly over reacting on the arrangement. No pitch problems through the entire performance. It would be a shame if she's let go.
I liked Amanda Overmyer's singing style on this track. Simon did mention that he couldn't understand 70% of the lyrics... but so what? I could name a bunch of artists that have had #1 hits.
Darnit Michael Johns!!! your song choice of horrible.. he could've chose a better song that wasn't so boring.
Same thing for Ramiele Malubay... I liked this girl through the audition process and thought she could've been a front runner... but I think it's too late for her. If she doesn't knock one out of the park soon... the axe should be within 2 weeks if not tomorrow.
prediction: David Hernandez should go home.

Good review efunk !
hey, you notice they did a 70s week ...
then an 80s week
then jumped on to Lennon/McCartney week . ..
What .... not enough from the 90's to keep going ??Shouldn't that period resonate with more viewers ???
Well I think David's humbling slip probably made him (unintentionally) more endearing.... Don't know why he had such trouble learning one song in a week's time ????
(ironic mis-singing lyrics like
Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright)
funny thing .... no matter what ... I did still think that its alright ...
Ya David Hernandez...he even took a college course about the songs of the Beatles yet the one he chooses :
I SAW HER STANDING THERE (isn't a big part of the appeal of that song the Fab Four's harmonizing ...)
good choice Hernandez out ...
.... if not Syesha Mercado ( she belongs on the Disney channel )

Why did I know David Hernandez would be off the show this week before he even did his song? His performance was cringe-worthy but this was pretty predictable. I was really looking forward to hearing him sing "I was a male stripper in a go-go bar"!
