Last Saturday night at DiscoQueer at the Nouveau Casino of Paris, Miss Aicha reminded us of the roots of disco and did spin a couple of classics such as "Soul City Walk" and Gloria Gaynor's glorious "How Hight The Moon" but for the most of the night it was fast and furious eurodisco only. In the beginning I did some American and British tracks as well and kicked off the proceedings with things like Laurie Marshall's Disco Spaceship, Carry Me by El Coco and Take Me To Paradise by Kelly Marie, plus Mother F: Hit And Run Lover, The Immortals: Ultimate Warlord, Disco Dream and the Androids: Dream Machine, and Man2Man's Male Stripper. After those, euro sounds only, no holds barred. Did the young, fashionable and very mixed Parisian crowd gag, throw beer cans and run for the exit in horror? Well, have a look at Aicha's site and see for yourself.
Aicha programmed absolutely wonderful stuff - when she ordered me on stage again I begged her to go on spinning so I could dance just a little bit more.
Here's a few examples of what I did:
DD Sound: 1,2,3,4 Gimme Some More
Arabesque: High Life
Four On The Floor Band: Let's Spend the Night Together
Dshinghis Khan: Moscow (12" version)
Krenzell: Drum Dream
Rinder & Lewis: Gluttony
Trax: The Mighty Crusader
Giorgio: Utopia
Marsha Raven: Catch Me
and with a special introduction addressed to the crowd, Syncophonic Orchestra's magnificent Columbia Suite.
Naturally, Susana Estrada's Acariciame got spinned as well.
