That's our Amy Winehouse - she's got a fantastic voice but has 'gone off the rails' a bit as her hubby is in jail on a perversion of the course of justice charge.
She used to be a 'nice Jewish girl' from North London (always with a great voice). Her album was the UK's Number 1 seller. I don't live too far from her and in the flesh there's more meat on a 'Value' chicken from Tescos then her! Very scary!
Despite her well known drink and drug problems the UK has a lot of symapthy for her and hopet hat she doesn't spiral out of control and into oblivion.

I bought her first album ('Frank') & she looked quite happy & 'normal' then but since this latest album took off she nalways looks unhappy & well, yes, skanky! That's hanging out with villains & doing drugs for you I s'pose. I'm not judging her as none of us are angels but there is something quite disturbing about seeing this young girl unravel very publicly. She's almost our Britney isn't she?!:icon_rolleyes:![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
i saw a picture of her the other day shes lost the beehive and gone blonde she looks a little better but she still had that what the f**k is going on look on her face, but the tramp stamps remain all over her body:icon_sad:
i am sorry for amy and i hope nothing bad happens to her, britney i couldnt care less just a shame for her kids.
That "Back to black" album is just great, her first CD was just released here a few weeks back, I read it is just as good, what do you say??
As far as her looks, there is something weird about her, but yet attractive , Hmmm......![]()
...ya gotta beat the street......
How odd! Our US friends barely know Amy Winehouse, yet she's won 5 Grammys.

BTW: Although I thought overall that Rehab was a GREAT single, I hated the way that she dragged the vocals waaay of the beat. I know that the ability to do this is, to some extent, what Jazz and Soul is all about, but I thought maybe she over-did it on the track. There's no doubt that the album 'Back To Black' is an all- time classic.

Thanks, I will be picking this one up soon, I like Jazz, and I love "Mood for love", I even used this song by King Pleasure as the closing song during my Dj years. (But you heard me say this before already :icon_rolleyes:)
I finally saw WineHouse performing live last night in the Grammy's fro the first time, (and was able to record it!!:icon_cool: ) and she certainly deserves the wins for that Album and song, although Corine Bailey Rae's Album -- also nominated-- is also solid.
As far as WineHouse US exposure..well, She was a guest on the Letterman Show a while back (A show I missed) and her "Rehab" video was all over the airways, I first noticed her in that video which was playing on "The Tube" a video channel that went belly up.
Her "Back to Black" song is used in a new series playing on cable, about the life of 1960's Ad guys in NYC..
But yes, I don't think many "average" folks know of her music..
There has been an incredible uproar over comments made by Natalie Cole with regards to Ms. Winehouse winning her Grammys the other night. Ms. Cole (who is a personal favorite of mine), stated that she did not think Ms. Winehouse deserves her awards.."we are rewarding her for bad behavior"..
As a life long fan of Ms. Cole's, I happen to agree with much of what she said..I just don't think it was the proper forum for it..and it also looks kinda bad since she herself has battled the same demons..
What do you guys think??
Well I think Natalie said it because she lived it herself. Natalie was winning Grammys in the early stages of her career and behaving badly through drug usage...thus rewarding bad behavior with awards was part of her life. Only later, did her career fall apart and she had to rebuild it all over. Natalie is a great singer in all genres--one of the absolute best we have. I think Natalie has every right to criticize Miss Winehouse--who appears to be defying fate to become the next Janis Joplin tragedy....
As Blondie once sang....:"Die Young/Stay Pretty"...well in Amy's case, the "pretty" does not apply...but I do think she is talented.
Some are saying Amy will be totally forgotten in a few years...anyone hear anything from Lauryn Hill recently???? :icon_eek: Will Amy have longevity or will her career vaporize into the ozone???? :icon_question:
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Thank you so much for your insight!
As I mentioned, I am a huge Natalie Cole fan and I agree that she is one of the best vocalists we have. I mean, the woman can sing most anything!!
I do wish however, she had proceeded with a bit more caution, right as she may be.
I am concerned what this whole thing is going to do to her career though.
If you go to her website, you'll see there are horrible things being said about her. The fact that the Moderators are allowing these things to be written on her own board, is another thing that has my brain twisted!
Anyway..I hope it blows over and that Ms. Winehouse gets the help she needs. And that Ms. Natalie can survive the storm..
Thanks again!!
hmmm...I didn't realize there was a substantial backlash against Natalie--especially from her fans!!! I guess she might have been more diplomatic in her words--but having been there and done that and survived--I understand her lack of p.c. ambiguity in answering the question.
I was surprised when I heard her say it on a Grammy aftershow newsclip--but also I understood how refreshingly honest her answer was. And, having gone through the hell she did--she was a crack ho!! in her own words--she's vehement in her not coddling or enabling destructive behavior.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Don't misunderstand me..the backlash against Ms. Cole is not by her fans..On the contrary, we are all trying very hard to defend her..The folks who are posting things on her board (and elsewhere), are fans of Ms. Winehouse. Rabid fans, at that!
I also agree with your statements whole heartedly..I do think however, a bit of diplomacy was needed. Having been through much of what both she and Ms. Winehouse have been through, I too, have little patience for destructive behavior. Choosing where and when to say what needs to be said, is the only thing I wish was done differently..
Best Wishes from cold, cold New York!!
And again,thanks for your responses..
Mr. Melody,
I understand now. Sorry for misstating the obvious!!!
Natalie seems to be taking a "tough love" stance---the way AA members do. No "poor Amy" or "maybe she'll get herself together someday"--BUT rather-- Amy, you are a mess--get your act together--help is there for you.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
No worries, sir..
She is most definitely taking a tough stance on the issue. According to someone on her website, she is not going to make a comment or issue an apology..Good for her! Sticking to her guns,as they say..
My prediction: her recording career will probably take a nose-dive some time soon & she'll turn up on sad reality TV shows (Junkie Swap?:icon_confused:) & chat shows plugging her heart-rending autobiography within 3 years. With all the media around nowadays even the most z-list celeb need never starve again.:icon_mrgreen:
