Claudja Barry "sweet Dynamite" Tom Moulton Remix

.. back in 1976 Tom Moulton remixed "Sweet dynamite" by Claudja Barry .. his mix was over 7 mins in length and was issued as a promotional 12" single for dj's-only .. the tune was a global euro smash .. charting just about everywhere .. the LP cut was only a 4 min edit, making the extended Moulton mix very rare & collectable indeed .. I never managed to find a copy ( .. and God knows, I looked ) .. well I've just discovered this 7 min remix version on 3 different CD compilations ( .. you wait 30 years for a bus, then 3 arrive at once !! ) .. .. the 3 CD titles are: "Claudja Barry Disco Mixes" on Hot Productions out of the U.S. .. .. "The Original Masters / The music history of disco" on Halca out of Italy .. .. "Deep Disco Culture vol 1" on Suss'd out of the U.K.

I hate to tell you this, especially since you went 30 years waiting for this extended mix :icon_eek:

But the extended 7:22 long, "All Bands: ATom Moulton Mix" labeled LP on Salsoul Records (SZS-5512)was released and available to the retail market.

I marked my copy as purchased on July -1977. Maybe this LP was a Limited edition?? I don't know...

This is the Claudja Barry album for sale at retail BITD

Re: Claudja Barry "sweet Dynamite" Tom Moulton Remix

I wasn't old enough to buy records when it came out but I did buy one (the Salsoul remix LP) in the early 90s. That was the first one I bought. Then I discovered the version with the shorter mixes on the Lollipop label a few years later.

The LP has 6 cuts and they're all extended versions, if I'm not mistaken. I think Moulton left off the remake of Do It Again, which was on the Lollipop record. His remix of Dance Dance Dance is equally as impressive as the Sweet Dynamite remix. Love For The Sake Of Love sounded similar, but was slightly longer because the song is mainly instrumental anyway.

Re: Claudja Barry "sweet Dynamite" Tom Moulton Remix

Yuppers... The Salsoul L.P. contained the complete Tom Moulton remixes. Although, his mix of "Sweet Dynamite" was released on a US 12", as well. The original 12' of "Sweet Dynamite / Love For The Sake Of Love", was on London Records, from Canada. And (Although I have NO idea, why!) always goes for a small fortune, at auction.

"Love for The Sake Of Love" (As are all the tracks.) is, almost wholely re-Produced by Tom for the Salsoul release. (I'm not a big TM fan, but he seriously saved that album!) Thankfully, he brought in the 'Sweethearts of Sigma' to do BV overdubs and, practically drowned-out Claudja. (Much like Jim Burgess did, by cranking-up the 'birds of paris' BVs, when remixing Madleen Kane's "Forbidden Love", for the North American releases.)

Don't get me wrong... I loves me both of those ladies. But on the original mixes of those particular recordings.. PHEW! They were singing WAY off-key.

    Mixmachine
it's the 12", not the LP (both on SalSoul) that was promo only, same version on the 12" just pressed louder.

    Ashley
and the version on that Hot CD, despite the timing on the label, is not the full length version!

    buyer beware.

I have to say that this is my track of 2007. What a tune! It first came to my attention on a compilation and I guess I have been after the 12" ever since!

We are using it (with kind permission from the artist and record label) as our 'theme tune' for our 'night' on Friday 1st February. If you want to hear the tune then go to our website New Page 2 (it's not called New Page 2 BTW!!)

.. well thanks everybody, what a knowledgeable crowd you are .. I see what happened .. 30 years ago I purchased the original european pressing of the Claudja Barry album "Sweet Dynamite" on the Lollipop label, which of course had all the short versions .. I had no idea the U.S. release on Salsoul was completely remixed .. God, if only I'd known back then .. flip, this site is a revelation .. .. Concerning the 3 new CD compilations, the one I don't actually own is the "Claudja Barry Disco Mixes" on U.S. Hot Productions .. I presumed the track was extended because of the timings listed on the CD case .. somewhat ironic then that only the european CDs contain the extended Moulton remix .. the U.S. CD compilation instead giving you the short european mix ..
