Last night I was going through a drawer that held audio tapes, VHS tapes, stereo manuals and a handful of 45s.
What did I find but the very record I had asked if any of you knew who did it: "I Thought You Wanted to Dance" and it's by Symbol 8. I feel like Dorothy when Glenda told her she had the way to go home all along!
With no turn table, I don't have any way to take a trip down memory lane. Oh well, here's the scoop:
"I Thought You Wanted to Dance" Symbol 8
1978
Time: 3:30
Shock Records/Janus Records, a division of GRT Corp., Los Angeles.
Produced by Michael R. Birzon & Richard H. Royal I.

Can anyone tell me anything else about the group or the people involved? Just curious.
You can slide my finger on it
I am the producer of the record and it was recorded at Mega Sound in Bailey NC. We actually produced several singles with the group. Party Life peaked in the mid-50's on Billboard's Hot 100. Thanks for listening!
It also appears on Dimitri from Paris and Dj Muros compilation "Super Disco Friends". Which is how i know it,and love it.![]()

I saw the compilation and it appeared the Dimitri simply takes tracks and puts an album together. Nobody was ever paid for the release. Janus records and the Shock label went out of business, so the best chance to pick up the single is to do an internet search of some of the record collectors who sell vintage records. Glad you like it!
Hey Michael,
I was the drummer on the record "I thought you wanted to dance". I was researching some of our tunes because my daughter has a program on her Droid called MP3 Music Box. She was able to find the song in there and now she can listen to it any time. Very cool indeed and I am proud to have been on that record. I remember when it got rated 95 on American Bandstand. And lets not forget "Party Life" our first big hit right? Good ole back in the days stuff. Kool Jazz Festival in Atlanta....etc. I could go on. How can I get in touch with you Michael?
Paul "Skeeter" B
Drummer for S-Y-M-B-O-L and one big ole Funky 8
