New buys and some thinking
Here's some vinyl I caught at the fair:
-EVELYN "CHAMPAGNE" KING - Smooth talk (1978)
-CAROL DOUGLAS - Midnight love affair (1976)
-GLORIA GAYNOR - Never can say goodbye (1975)
-THE HUES CORPORATION - Freedom for the stallion (1973) (yes, Marky, I bought it too! :) )
-CERRONE - 3/Supernature (1977)
-PATTI LABELLE - Idem (1977) (to check about that shrieking-diva syndrome :) )
-ALEC R. COSTANDINOS & THE SYNCHOPHONIC ORCHESTRA - Featuring Alirol & Jacquet (1979) :o
Yes, you're probably wondering how come this guy says he loves funk and then buy Costandinos, old divas surrounded by violins, etc.? I had some reflexive time about this I came to the conclusion that, given that I can't find the records I really was looking for (say, Gino Soccio, Raydio, One Way, Unlimited Touch, etc.) I end buying other things for name, price or both.
It's sad but I came to the conclusion that, at least in Buenos Aires, all funky-disco post-1980 is unavailable or very high-priced (ditto for some Italian product like La Bionda). The other day I found one guy at the fair with all the vinyl I was looking for (those mentioned plus T.S. Monk, Karen Silver, Firefly, etc.), but he sold them almost at the price of a new CD each. Boy, I was pissed!
I guess the reason is these albums were not released locally and were available only as imports. On the other hand, most pre-1980 disco stuff had a local release and you find it cheap (RCA released many Philly material plus some indie small labels like Midland Int. and early Prelude).
I wonder how's that in your city, guys. What's the more valuated stuff, and why?
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
