Posting Disco video clips on Youtube?

Can video taped from old disco or music shows be posted on Youtube?
Can you get into trouble for doing it, or do they just take it off Youtube if they think it infringes copyright.

Re: Posting Disco video clips on Youtube?

    Hi Discodevil,

from what I understand Youtube will just pull the clip if it is reported as breaching copyright. That is if the copyright owner complains or some other over-zealous little person does it for them. (Apparently there are some disco hating jerks who constantly flag clips as part of an effort to get Disco off Youtube. They must have little to do.:icon_sad:)
If you do continually post breach of copyright material (but only if it is reported) they might suspend or at worst, cancel your account. I don't think it goes any further than that.

So I think you are probably pretty safe posting your Disco show clips. ( I love seeing the old Disco programmes.) Especially if they are things you taped off the TV yourself. If the original makers of the program are still alive they would probably get a kick out of the fact that people are watching their old programs and the TV stations that probably own the copyright now are much more worried about current and recent shows to expend time and money tracking down thirty year old programmes.

Please note I am not a lawyer and that this advice may not stand up in a court of law.

    Cheers,
    TimTam

Actually a lot of clips have been there awhile. I put the Top 50 of the forum's Top 700 List on a single playlist. Only 3 tracks were missing off there:

#48 Detroit Emeralds - "Feel The Need In Me (Tom Moulton Mix)"
#40 The Ritchie Family - "Quiet Village"
    #31 Change - "Searchin'"

If anyone wants to fill in the gaps I'll include them and take out the few tracks I used to fill their spots.

Majority of these are someone putting a videocamera on their turntable and just playing the 12" record which is simple enough...

Also wanted to represent and put the top 50 on RYM as well. :icon_cool:
