    LIPSTIQUE

I was browsing through CDNOW/Amazon and I saw LIPSTIQUE cd for $8.99. I think that there are about 4 songs listed including "At The Discotheque" and "Mah Nah Mah Nah". ATD is okay but I like MNMN much better so I'm wondering if anyone can enlighten me about this group. I remember sometime ago that someone used to talk about this group often was it Jussik or Nano?

NIGHTLIFE UNLIMITED is another group that I'm unfamiliar with and anxious to hear their songs such as "Disco Choo", "Love Is In You", "Dance Freak & Boogie", "Just Be Yourself " etc......Unfortunately there are no audio samples
offered not even a freakin minute. Is this group worth it?

Lipstique just made one album (1978) and one 12inch single (1977) both titled "at the discoteque".
The Album was produced by J.S. Korduletsch and Arranged by J. Evers (of 5000 Volts). It was recorded in Munich and London.

    Tracks on The album

    Side A:
    1. At The Discoteque/Discotheque/At The Discoteque (Reprise)
    2. I'm Still Dancing/Our Song of Love/I'm Still Dancing (Reprise)

    Side B:
    1. Venus/Light My Fire
    2. I Wanna Play With You/Funny Games
    3. Mah-Nah-Mah-Nah/Disco
    4. Goodnight Sweetheart

    Hope this helped you.
Perhaps somebody here knows more about them.

    Hustlebaby,

Happy New Year! Don't lose any sleep over the Lipstique CD. Don't buy it! I have the album and it just doesn't do much for me which is surprising as I like the producer's work on other groups.

As for Nightlife Unlimited-go for it. You'll love and hopefully recognize "Disco Choo Choo," "Love's In You" and the great "Dance, Freak and Boogie." All three have a driving bassline and are very catchy.

Nightlife Unlimited released two other albums:

JUST BE YOURSELF on Unidisc CAN in 1980 (including the gem "Peaches and prunes", not available on 12")

I LOVE THE NIGHT IN NY CITY on Toyo US in 1983 (including "love the nightlife...." & "Danger zone")

I agree with Bernie about the Lipstique lp-- when I first heard it I was shocked at the amateurish quality of the music. The songs are pretty embarrassing, like teeny-bop of the 60s set to a cliched disco beat. Save your money.

Guys, I really don't understand something :) If Lipstique is NOT good disco, then what is?
I have this LP, and I've digitalized it and restorated it. Why do I did it, will you guess? Because I was smashed by its brightly live orchestra sound, its drive, its real dance-usability. We were dancing 35 minutes long nonstop! For me this project is one of the best euro-projects ever. Like Chilly, like Cherry Laine, like Dee Dee Jackson '79.
This CD I know. There are songs from it in P2P nets. They are slightly remixed. I hate remixes! But it's interesting to me, if Lipstique "is poor and bad" what is on the other side then? It's very interesting.
    That\'s the way. Aha, aha.

Lipstique did make "Lover Love Me" as well, by the same producing team in 1979. The synthdriven tune is not quite in the leaque of "At The Discotheque" but still very good. There's also a Disconet mix which is even better. The title got re-realesed on a so-so 1980 album called "Plastic Paradise" by Disco Circus, another Korduletch etc. studio project.

    Firstly:

    I LOVE

    AT THE DISCOTHEQUE MEDLEY

(both European and American takes worth owning )

long yes , but with virtually no filler -
its content so variable, repeat listenings in one sitting - perfectly doable .
The gentile, swayful effects of the composition would qualify it for my "romantic disco" compilation .

The I'M STILL DANCING segment is a Van McCoy song.

    and secondly :

Lipstique "At The Discotheque" ... Great LP, especially the medley side...Have to agree with Sierra-Leone, Remicks and Jussi on this one. The carnival like break is especially enjoyable for me, and the wonderful string arrangements.

Gotta love that real drumming too, eh Jerry?

one curious , noteworthy thing that differs in the US and European versions:

In the original euroversion , the singing parts beginning around the one minute mark are more concise ,
    one line being :

do what you wanna do .... be what you wanna be
    .....

Lyrics in the typical free-spirit that was disco .

Now, besides adding other lines , in the American release , a most interesting male vocal has been added @ 2:13 :

    US VERSION

Tom Moulton , on his own label no less , hetero-izing this release a bit .....??!!??

Another part added by Tom Moulton that I think helped enrich the song is the gospel laced "Lenore O'Malley" -ish vocal that can be heard at the 7:03 mark.... ...

Wow...this is nice! What's wonderful is to listen to this fifteen minutes of skillful musical production today...unfamiliar to me...and to freshly recognize how much thought, talent and forceful effort went into making the record. Where is that passionate effort in music now? Yes, I imagine perhaps back in 1978, the Lipstique album got lost in the shuffle with all the others and likely didn't fit in with what was really filling the dancefloors but how thankful we all can be that it was made and can be heard in a different mindset thirty years later. That vocal on "I'm Still Dancing" is just so sweet and pure...non-abrasive....comforting and just so fitting. Excellent!

"Love Love Me" is in another league altogether. It's gorgeous! Perhaps it would have worked better in the early '80s....ooh...how about mixed into Claudja Barry's "I Will Follow Him"....although hopefully in '79, DJs were mixing out of it with Donna Summer's "Lucky" (that just gave me shivers).

I guess all the differing opinions here are a reminder that we all have our own individual tastes. But to shift the focus of the discussion just a bit I'd STRONGLY recommend people stop waiting for certain titles to be released on CD and just start digitizing instead because (and I've mentioned this before under my previous screen names) not only are certain titles unlikely to ever be released now that CDs are becoming extinct but digitizing is free and takes just a bit of practice to learn and TRUST me, if I can learn it, anyone can. And you've never experienced musical euphoria until you've heard about an hour of your favorite, hand chosen selections digitized and played back to back. Your albums will last longer since you won't feel the need to play them so often anymore. Try the "EZ Vinyl tape converter" and you can also convert albums to CDs using Windows Media Player. On rainy days I stay home and digitize for hours. 10/7/2011

I bought this album in a cut-out bin in 1980. The artwork was irresistible. And the music charmed me with its unabashed disco-ness.
I especially liked the cover of Venus. And always thought that Bananarama's later version took inspiration from it.
