    Keys

Hi there I 'm just wondering if it's possible to tell a song 's KEY by ear WITHOUT using a piano/keyboard to do it.
I can a tell how many BPM's a songs going without using a metronome or a stopwatch but not its key.
    Please help?

Only people with perfect pitch will be able to identify a certain key.
Some say that perfect pitch can be developed - others say that you have to be born with it (i.e. a biological thing).

Of course, if you don't know anything about basic music theory (reading sheet music and stuff like that) it's hard to tell whether you have the abillity or not.
Therefore, music theory skills always comes first and the rest might be sheer luck.

Hope that helps you out, Whistler :)

Hi Kb ,Thanks you for your quick reply ,I thought it might be pretty hard to do (Iidetyfying a certain key),so in the meantime ,I will take up reading sheet music first and see if I can develop this perfect pitch your talking about .I just hope I was born with it. Once again thanks your reply and thoughts as I really appreciate it .

Of course certain CD players now allow you to change pitch without changing tempo, so clashes of keys when mixing CDs could be a thing of the past.

Hi guys thanks for your replies,I found some information on perfect pitch at ninemsn.com(search) pages, 1,10 ,24 ,51 ,52,and I also found a website with a perfect pitch test ,just for fun, it's, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lisa.gr...s/PP%20website
    /experimentwav.htm
I hope all ,who are interested can find it ,but just to let you know ,I know nothing about keys at all ,I don't even know what an A minor sounds like ,I would like to learn what all the keys sound like, but what I can do is pick a song which mixes pefect with another song by ear and know that it's in key because it fazes. I don't know if what I've got is perfect pitch but I'm happy to say , just by listening to my music over and over again I can mix perfect all the time .
Once again thanks for your quick replies ,and I hope I can become the next Mozart (-:

    Cheers, The Whistler
