Like Teddy says, they usually bash Eurodisco too.

The Bee Gees have written so many great songs that it simply is a shame that they sometimes are so neglected here! Maybe we Europeans are much more open minded (and no, the Brits are not Europeans )

We wanna have fun on the dancefloor and if a groove puts a smile on our face, we party. We don't look around and ask ourselves if the song in question is cool or worthy or don't analyse it for a few months before a congregation of Disco wisemen gives it the stamp of approval.

We just go for it and don't care. Remember: we didn't have the Disco Sucks backlash BITD, we kept dancing and enjoying ourselves to the sounds we dig!

And all that "No they are pop or poppy Disco but not real Disco or they gave Disco a bad name" is simply mosquitomilking!

If you can't admit that f.i. "You should be dancing" is a Disco classic, then you have a very fundamentalistic attitude. I still go beZerk when that 1 bursts out of the speakers and I'm never gonna apologize or be ashamed for liking it

The Bee Gees were massive in our Discothèques and we DANCED on their tracks and we had a lot of FUN doing that.

Barry, Robin, Maurice and Andy deserve our respect!

I love the BeeGees.."Love So Right" was one of my favorite ballads of the 70's..I prefered it to "How deep is Your Love" but Liked this song as well..
as for the Disco aspect..I Loved their sound and found them very apealing..Before Saturday Night Fever and after..I Loved "Tragedy"..and not to mention Barry Produced Eaten Alive for My Diana ..and co produced HeartBreaker for Dionne Warwick
I have great respect for their talent and contibutions the the music industry in general...

    OFF TOPIC ALERT!!

I have upmost respect for those both in the UK and mainland Europe that want some sort of European nationality. Yes the UK is an island off the coast of Europe, however our identity is British. It is unique to the British Isles and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and - this has as much to do with Disco Music as space travel is to Led Zeppelin - our illustrious leader(s) of the past 10 years has done everything in its power to erode that identity and a lot of people have been brainwashed into this 'Europeanisation' of this country. This bloody treaty signed today by that stupid man is going to be the undoing of him (thank goodness) but in the meantime we will see further erosion of Britishness and British values. As you might have guessed by now I am very anti EU...another thread for another time.

Actually, there were disco tracks charting in '74 on the Pop Charts at Number 1, like Rock Your Baby and TSOP. The falsetto sound was borrowed by the Bee Gees. Black R&B vocal groups had been using that style for years, but because there was a bias towards their music, they didn't get as much exposure as the white pop group The Bee Gees. That's really what it boils down to. Just like Rock & Roll didn't became a money maker until Elvis did it, even though guys like Ike Turner and Chuck Berry had been sweating it out for years. Same with Doo Wop artists, where black groups couldn't get noticed for their tunes, but when the white groups covered their songs, they were huge hits. The industry was inherantly biased (or should I say 'racist') against black artists and their music, and only got behind white artists that could commercialize the sound.
That statement is a typically revisionist view of the matter. At that time, it was not uncommon for white performers to sing versions of songs put out by black artists. Radio was segregated, more or less at the time, with the exception of a few cities, New York in particular. Doo-wop music was and is concentrated mainly in the Northeast, where its exposure was commonplace. That is not to say that all black artists couldn't get any radio play on radio stations that weren't exclusively for black people's music; Nat King Cole, The Platters, Brook Bention, Johnny Mathis, etc. were constant hitmakers on the national popular charts in the '50s and early '60s. Granted, to the rest of the country, remakes of R&B songs by white artists was nevertheless common, but not the solitary rule.

What is that? Football hooliganism, crap food, xenophobia, work-obsessed, mean-spiritedness, lack of style & piss-taking of everything & anything. I think I'd rather we found a new identity myself.

Looks like this topic needs some moderating to me !

I'm totally with Sandra on this one. Half the UK needs to get it's head out of its arse and look to the future instead of pretending that Queen Victoria is still on the throne and Churchill is still waving that cigar around.

But then the whole Bee Gee's thread was crap from the start and shouldn't have been allowed to get this far. It's this kind of things that's dragging the site down.

    Simonella,

Didn't you just dramatically resign from "moderating" like two days ago? :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen: :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

Some of us were overjoyed at the thought of not having to read your nasty, meddling comments on every thread that didn't meet your "standards."

And now you're back doing it again. The nerve. :icon_evil::icon_redface:

Yeah, I said it. An informal survey of my those whose opinions I respect confirmed we were all feeling the same thing. Get a clue.

Ok guys, now that you all have shown your deepest emotions and unconditional love for each other we gonna talk about the Bee Gees again and I suggest that you settle your personal battles via PM and not on the board! Thank You!

The other discussion, the Europe vs. Britannia thing is also stopping here but feel free to open a thread in the political subforum because this could be very interesting!

I second that, Skoots. How did it get back onto Europe and the politics of it anyway?

I hope you take Marky to task for his totally out of order. off topic attack on me.

Oh and what happened to ultimateBeeGees fan? He made a few very definite and provocative postings...almost as if he'd been here before....and then vanished.

    A mystery...or will he come back? :icon_mrgreen:

OK, Marky, that's enough now. You're a great member so don't get lost in such nonsense. I can understand the humour of posts like the "nail thing" but since this thread is turning into a genuine flame war, it's better to stop this now.

Can I ask everybody to be respectful for each other, to stop personal attacks, to stop calling threads "crap" (it's not because somebody doesn't like the subject of a topic that it can't be discussed here).

And to all members/memberettes: if you read something that's offensive, disrespectful, racist, a personal attack, then please do not react to it immediately (I know it's sometimes difficult and that everybody can have an off day) and to PM the administrator/moderators and report the post so that we can have a look at it, discuss it and handle it. That way, we can try to keep everybody happy and satisfied. If you start hitting at each other right away, that option will be left out.

So, guys, make the peace with each other!! Okay, thx!

I'm going to temporarily lock this thread!
