    Hi efunkadelic,

yours is a fine selection of soul and funky tunes indeed. I like all the songs you listed on your post. I'm listening the new CD by SOLOMON BURKE, DON'T GIVE UP ON ME, which is a marvel, simply wonderful. Other records I'm giving a spin these days: HELL by JAMES BROWN, THE POET 2 by BOBBY WOMACK, 3RD ALBUM by THE JACKSON 5, BACK ON TOP by VAN MORRISON, BRAINWASHED by GEORGE HARRISON (beautiful), ARETHA NOW by Aretha Franklin and a great selection of STARPOINT songs recorded by a friend of mine.

    Peace,

    U like Starpoint, Zeze?

Try to get a hold of the classic "Delicious" album (Boardwalk, 1985).
It includes "Behind Your Back" - one of their best songs ever, in my opinion. 8)

    Hey K-Bee,

how's everything in Denmark? Here in Brazil we're on summer - hot days and hot nights. Yes, I like STARPOINT. For me, STARPOINT is one of the best groups of rare groove ever. I think they are underestimated by music critics and soul fans. Unfortunately, their records are not easy to find around here, so I don't have the song you mentioned. But I'll look for it, for sure. BTW, the friend who recorded the STARPOINT CD for me is our DISCOMUSIC friend BLAXMAN. Here's the songs he put on the CD:

    GET READY, GET DOWN
WANTING YOU (my favorithe by them, I love this one)
    BRING YOUR SWEET LOVIN' BACK
    SHAKE IT UP
    KEEP ON IT
    BREAKOUT
    HOT TO THE TOUCH

This comp is spinning a lot these days here at home. Good music to hear on these summer days.

K-Bee, send my regards to Prince Hamlet and his family

    Peace,

    zeca azevedo, where's my sun glasses? 8) 8) 8)

I'd say that the starpoint tracks you got on CD pretty much covers the most important aspects of the band
from the ultra funky "Bring Your Sweet Lovin' Back" to the very commercial "Hot to the touch" from their 1988 album of the same name.

Buy the way (just in case you didn't know), Starpoint disbanded in 1991 after a very unsuccesful album "Have You Got What It Takes" for Elektra in 1990.
However, lead vocalist Renee Diggs was supposed to release a solo album in the early 90's. Unfortunatly is was held back by Capitol. Fear not though - later it was released by british label, Expansion records.

Renee Diggs is no longer working as an recording artist. She suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is no longer able to perform.

Oh - Prince Hamlet is doing very well indeed but the rest of us are freezing our asses off. Everything' completely covered in snow. Guess that never happens in Brazil.. :)

    Hi K-Bee,

thank you very very much for the info about STARPOINT. It's very hard to find info about soul groups that didn't have great crossover success. I didn't know about the condition of STARPOINT's lead vocalist, Renee. Sad news indeed

More sad news: I was surfing on the net this week and I read that TERESA GRAVES, singer and actress from the early 70's, a black goddess who was the star in TV series GET CHRISTIE LOVE (I bet you don't remember this one), died in october, when her house caught fire. Sad sad news. I have an LP by her, I think it's very rare - it's a beautiful album of soft soul music.

Enough of sad news: my friend Mauro also recorded for me a good comp by a group called DAYTON. Their greatest hit was the superb THE SOUND OF MUSIC, remember that one?

You're right, K-Bee, we don't know what is to have everything covered by snow here in Brazil. There's some parts of Brazil that have a little snow in the winter, but it's very rare and it's not enough to cover a city.

    Peace, K-Bee.

I must admit I'm not very familiar with Teresa Graves, allthough I know she made an LP way back in 1970.

I do, however know Dayton very well & absolutely love "the sound of music" - Especially that understated piano solo :P

Dayton made 3 albums in the early 80's & they worked with members of the troutman family (of Zapp fame).

Great music 4 great people 8)

Its strange that you guyz should talk about Dayton & Starpoint as I have a tape from '84 with LPs by these 2 groups on it. My favourite starpoint track is 'Satisfy Me Lover' & my favourite Dayton track is 'Promise Me' (although I agree that 'Sound of Music' is a goody & always reminds me of Shakatak)
