I Met An Important Belgian Today!

I shook hands today with His Excellency Jean-Michel Veranneman de Watervliet, the Ambassador of Belgium to the Court of St James (i.e. the UK). I met him at a social function. I asked him if he knew Videoskooter, whether he'd ever been on bumper cars and why he had such a long strange name. He was a very nice man!!

Russ, LOL, I never heard of that man. The long name means that he is from a noble family. Also the little "d" in "de Watervliet" indicates that. Probably he has a title like "Jonkheer" or "Baron".

I'm pretty sure he didn't talk about bumpercars but did he mention the political problems?

Alas not. But he did say that his family were from a long line of diplomats. His father in law extablished th diplomatic service for Liberia. Actually I discussed the situation with another Belgian tonight who agreed that the news (or lack of it) about the Belgium situation in the UK is amazing!!

I've mixed it with three Beligians today (including my fatiher-in-law)

Paul, the thread title is "I Met An Important Belgian Today!" otherwise it would have been "I Met The Most Important Belgian Today!"
