Any Disco Happening In Your Area?

I was wondering if there is a resurgence of Disco clubs happening in or near your town. Can we interest a younger group to experience a taste of what it was like back in the day?:icon_razz:. Check out some photos/video of a party we just had. Allow yourself a little bit of time to view these. I will try to produce some links to short videos soon. Here in L.A we are hopeful of a Disco revival on a semi large scale. We already do this about once a month consistantly. Thanks...again it will take some time to view photos.

In Belgium there ain't much happening. Of course Disco records are played and even the rare and more obscure grooves but partywise...nope.

Gay club "Red & Blue" has it's monthly Studio 54 parties with different theming and there's the annual big Studio 54 happening in Antwerp's Sporting Palace (venue for 10000 people) but...yes....a lot of so called Disco parties where people are wearing big plastic sunglasses, big fake afros and over the top clothing.

But I call that Mardi Gras happenings, not the real thang! No class, no finesse, no style and the music is usually limited to Top 40 Disco :icon_mad:

Vinyllife, I've checked your pics and it seems to be a great venue. Is this an existing one or do they specially theme the club in that style for the Disco nights?

Good morning Disco people.

To answer a couple of questions. This venue is always decked out like this. The music has changed over the years but the heart and soul of it being a Disco club has always been top priority. Gene the owner tells us of promoters who have come and gone who have actually asked if the word Disco could be removed from the face of the building. On this particular night we brought together about 1800 Disco loving people. It's not top 40's Disco. I think the closest we came to top 40 was Donna Summer' Spring Affair. A play list??? Wish I would have noted the songs played that night, but not this time. Looking in my bag right now, I can name a few I played. We had 5 dj's this night.

The club has a beautiful entry and theming, maybe they can do some work on the Disco booth because I have the impression that people can easily bump against your decks :icon_smile:

Good and varied playlist! Do I have the impression that the audience is 30something and older or do the younger people also find their way to the show?

Funny you mention the booth. It was temporary. The club moved us away from the regular location so that our little Disco crowd could be closer to a stationary Camera that was set up to capture some footage of the evening. It was one of those zoom over the crowd kind. There is a husband and wife team doing an independent documentary on the current Disco revival in Los Angeles. Little did we, or the club know that we would take over the entire dance floor!!! 1800 people they say. I am 45yrs old, my wife is 47yrs old, we represent the average age. Some are 35 some are 55!!!! It's a great group. The club owner believes that if we were to do this on a more consistant schedule, that we could get the 28-36yr old crowd interested. I also believe this. The energy of the night was infectious. We know this because this club actually has three sections,....and the girls from the other side were partying on our side. They were mid 20's early 30's:icon_cool:. We are even considering giving Hustle lessons to start each evening. We are fortunate enough to have some reputable Dance teachers in our group. Disco Dave and Melody to name a couple. Wish us luck for our Disco future. Thanks for the interest VS.

Not a lot of disco here in Honalulu....I play at a beach club every Sat night until sunrise, getting utterly inebriated on Pina Colada's, but that's about it...

Yes we too heard the rumors. But I can officially say that the club will now remain open. Not sure if it will be another full year or not. We are doing New Years, and it will be all Disco on the main floor again. Let me know if you are interested in going....lot's of "FAMILY" will be in the house,just like the good ol days.

LOL! I doubt it although given the chance I may play 'I'm A Man - Macho', and a couple of Gino Soccio tracks.

The first night will be on Friday 1st February 2008. The line up to be confirmed....I was so excited to see VinylLife's gig in LA!! I am really hoping we can emulate that in the UK. Our venue takes 350, so a slightly different feel I'm sure!

Good luck on your February event. Just to let you know, it took us four years to get to this level of participation. I remember when we were glad to have 40 people atttend our events....and we were 10 of em!! As I type this I am just now relizing, that it was this internet/e-mail stuff that really made it possible to consistantly bring people together. E-mail list are golden. Get e-mails as often as you can. We find people do want to participate, the challenge is to keep them informed. Our biggest reward has been to see people come together at a maturity level that allows us to interact without many limits. What I mean is, when we were younger, being cool got in the way of meeting new people.Also your comment about a different feel is right on. To tell you the truth, the 350 person parties are still the most fun ones, these bigger ones are just a lot more wild!

We had our meeting this morning and this afternoon two 'big name' DJ's confirmed they will play at the inaugural night. The name of the night is 'Strut' - 70's Disco Music, what you would have heard in London's West End in the late 70's. So some Jazz Funk, funk and 'soul' Disco.

Our first night the proceeds will go to charity, flyers are being designed, radio ads being produced, Facebook pages being created and websites being made!!

Bad good news for you all. We have a club in Düsseldorf (that would be in germany) (no, its not on the map) that is dedicated to the most delicate and obscure disco, eurodisco and space disco full frontal. Last week Loda and lovefingers spinning it. Black Devil came this year - many other grands from tokyo, nyc and so on. Unit 4 hang out. I played there in Sep. some of my favs: Five Fingers / Hot R S / Laser / Methusalem / Adal Scandy Super Band / Ozila / Kikrokos / Leda / Mayordom / Patrick Remy / Automat and Moroder Foxes... Le Salon Des Amateurs is the venue. Drop by if you should ever -by accident- end up in this town, or while your car gets fixed (: :icon_mrgreen:

In Paris the revolution restarted in 2004 where I launched Discolounge parties. Since 2006, DiscoQueer is the Disco Club party with absolutely NOTHING after 1983. No cds, no reedit, no remixes (except the disco era ones !), no house, no comp. The main programmation is : philly - latin - soul disco at the beginning. Up tempo US, Canadian, Electronic and European Disco, then more and more European. Hi nrg and Italo are welcome in order the djs. After 5h30 this is gems collectors moment with 7", unheard disco. Some classics on demand can be naturally played. Last time it was "Enough is enough" and "où sont les femmes"

The main state of mind is EXPLORATION, Glamour, Percussion, Space, powerful beats. At a certain moment, I get into a trance, and people follows me very fast. I saw girls filling the floor and dancing very sensuously, i saw boys getting in with their white shirt and taking it off dancing like queens on patrick cowley or Claudia cardinale. I saw the dancefloor flying on Granada's Baccara sisters. I love not to remain serious all the time... so good old French can be heard too ("Mister Disco apprends moi à danser"...)
