    Question Soup Nazi?

    We saw this episode of Seinfeld yesterday and I vaguely (?) remember reading an article on this guy, but....does he really exist?

    Yes Videoskooter, there is a soup nazi.

    His real name is Al Yeganeh. and you can read more about him at this website;

    The Soup Nazi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    This is in my neighborhood. His sign is still there, even though the store is closed. Many a night I have thought about going and stealing his sign. I would hold on to it for years and then one day show up on Antiques Roadshow.

    I also live in the same building as the real Kramer does.

    If you like Seinfeld, I'll also give you a Seinfeld tour when you come to NYC.

    Thx for the offer Needle!

    So, many of the characters in "Seinfeld" are based on real people????? This is one of the series I can watch over & over again, it was funny, intelligent and in a sort of way "campy".

    BTW, have you ever met the real Soup man??

    Is this the real deal?

    No, I have never met the real “soup man”, but when the store was opened, I did see him. And yes, the line went around the block.

    The character of Jerry Seinfeld is based on two people: Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, the shows’ co-creator.

    It is a combination of their lives and their neighborhoods.

    There is a real Kramer, who was a neighbor of Larry’s.

    There is also a real George Costanza, who is named after a college friend of Jerry’s named Michael, but is character based on Larry David.

    Here is an article on Michael Costanza;

    http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/TV/9810/26/seinfeld/index.html

    The restaurant that the gang gets together at is called “Monk’s” on the show, but is based on two different diners.

    The Westway Diner is the basis of the interior. It is down the block from me, but it has been remodeled now.

    The exterior shot for the TV show is Tom’s Diner.

    Here is the website that discusses this and other Seinfeld nostalgia:

    http://home.earthlink.net/~asena/srny.html

    Now, here’s the dance connection. Tom’s Diner is a song by Suzanne Vega. Though it was released in 1987, it became a big hit a few years later when it was remixed by DNA.

    On the TV show, Jerry lives on the upper west side, but many of the shows storylines are based on true places in midtown west, where Larry David lived.

    Larry, who is more like George, has another series on HBO called Curb Your Enthusiasm. It’s very funny and available on DVD.

    Talk to you later, Schmoopie.
