What Do You Remember Most About the Disco Era?

Boy; what a topic! I could list about a thousand things, some happy, some sad, some funny, some strange, etc.

But here goes Disco People; and they are not in any order:

    1) Listening to non-stop disco on the radio on Friday and Saturday nights while getting ready to hit the club(s).

    2) Going from club to club sometimes hitting as many as 5 or more in one night.

    3) Having my disco station blaring at my job along with the majority of the co-workers who also had theirs blaring creating a stereo type effect in the workplace.

    4) If I stayed at the same club all night, dancing from opening to closing non-stop.

    5) When the music stopped and the lights in the club came on, finding out that the person you were really into and thought was cute turned out to be ugly as sin.

    6) When the club closed and people started filing out, everyone, guys included, had their shoes (5 inch or more pumps for men and women) in their hands complaining how much their feet hurt.

    7) Paying one dollar to get in the door.

    8) On wednesdays or other designated nights paying 10 cents for well drinks.

There is more but I can't think of any more right now, so Disco people, I leave it up to you to work our nerves and give us some more things that you remember so well and most about the Disco era! Thanks........

Re: What Do You Remember Most About the Disco Era?

Of all the things about the disco era I remember most would have to be the exuberance of the time period. Disco had this energetic "great to be alive", "happy" sound. It was not depressing.

What is so striking about the time period as well is the amount of talent that was out and about. You could turn on the radio and there were so many good songs on the radio. I do miss the big cars as well, and loved the BIG Lincolns and Cadillacs, particularly the Mark V...preferably the Givenchy designer series. I remember is was a two-tone lavender metalic paint. The whole time period had an elegance about it; today everything is baggy, trashy, and grundgy. It was also possible to live in the city of your choice--today, NYC, Boston, San Francisco, L.A. are too expensive unless you make big bucks.

O.K., I didn't forget the sex thing, I had lots of it too (probably too much which is why I'm still hot as an oven at my older age).

But the main thing relative to the sex issue was the primary reason you went out to dance at the discoteque was to get noticed and hopefully to score (get the girl or person you wanted).

If you didn't know how to dance, or didn't really get into the scene, chances are you wouldn't score or not score very well.

Don't forget about the 1978-1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme and the 1978-1979 Ford Thunderbird; these two cars were also "classics," disco classics mind you in their own right!

What about all those BIG LP sleeves?

Life was easier in all respects: studies, job, relationships, happiness.

And I miss my constant 130 pounds no matter what I ate. And having all that energy to dance all night long without a stop. And of course, I miss the wonderful LP sleeves (we've lost some dignity in the CD era).

Nowadays, when I hear the boring electronic beat-samebeat-beat and the facile music, I miss the Disco orchestration and the related excitement of fashion, dancin' and romance.

oh! this haven't changed that much!(if you choose the right place)....
i can asure you i had a great funk party yesterday here in Barcelona!
but i know it's not exactly the same feeling even if the elephant bell bottoms are trendy again. That's why i wish i could have lived that time :icon_rolleyes:, because if you want to hear that music you need to do somethin more than just swich on the radio, is not that easy.

Did you guys forget to mention the SEX, knocking boots, straight up fu#$ink, licking eatin', sucking, etc. :icon_biggrin: Oh and then there was all that great music before, during, and after.
You know, it was like that grandma in the movie "54." There were nights when I might have said let me keep my ass at home. Then I'd kick my self in the ass with the help of friends and go to heaven, the discos that is. It was truly magical.
By the way, did I mention the SEX

Paul, you can get sex anytime, you just have to be a bit more careful now. Now, Paul would you have watched Studio 54 even if Selma Hayek wasn't in that movie? I have to admit, for me, Ryan Phillippe made that movie. It's too bad it was so low budget, but at least it had wonderful music, and it was somewhat mixed. I love 1979!:icon_biggrin:

Hey Rab. Salma was the main reason I initially watched it. If I just casually came across it I probably would have watched it anyway because the music was good.
I haven't been to any clubs recently to know how the SEX compares to back in the day but I'll take your word for it.

    No AIDS virus.....yet

Best years of my life, I was 20 (in 1975) and got a job as a DJ in a MOntreal Downtown disco, called L'Index, on StDenis street, line-up at the door started at 10pm. The music and the girls, girls and did i say: the girls.

    Disco shoes?

They look suspiciously like Fetish shoes to me.

And with all the (presumably un-protected) sex everyone claims they were having maybe one of the biggest Disco era memories would be of the types of magazine they had in the waiting room at the Free Clinic.

Sounds like somebody should have thrown a bucket of cold water over the lot of you.

Those are genuine Disco shoes, Tim!

    No fetish whatsoever!

But I'll ask my DJ partner who is a real lifestyle dominatrix :icon_eek:

(OMG, I'm discussing shoes here! I hope none of my collegues reads this!)

Yes those are definitely Disco. Still a bit fetish too. Platform heels= Fetish.
But Disco and fetish. Not such a bad combination.

Hey Videoskooter, so you make an admission that your wife is a dominatrix? Quite a revelation. None of us will ever look at you in the same way again.:icon_razz:

Heh, heh. I get an image of you strapped to a giant mirror ball while your wife whips you to the Disco beat.
Hope you are not into High-Energy. That could be too painful.:icon_razz:

That thought did cross my mind. Although I wouldn't apply it to Dayna. If Dayna says she was getting lots, I believe her. I sure she was at it like the Energizer Bunny.

Anyway, I wouldn't ever go against what Dayna said. I'm not sure why but I'm a bit scared of her.

    Cheers,

Timmy, Timmy, Timmy, you didn't read it well! My DJ partner, Mistress De Sade, the beautiful woman who's my partner at the Dark Disco night-DJ sets we sometimes do, she is a dominatrix. My wife isn't. My DJ partner is not my wife.

So your fantasy about me hanging on a Disco ball and being whipped is so...sick :icon_arrow: LOL :icon_twisted:

You have a vivid imagination my friend.

BTW, the real Mistress has read your posts and she would LOVE to punish you :icon_eek:

Oh dear, oh dear, the youth of today, what has the world become:icon_question:
