This article touches on many of the topics discussed here and IMO manages to capture in very few words exactly what happened during the ‘Disco’ years, kudos for the writer, I can tell she did her home work.

Bernie, I was going to include some excerpts for the purpose of discussion but I’m not sure if is legal or not, since you are better versed on ‘internet’ legalese maybe you could advise. AFAIK one can access the Herald’s articles free during the first 7 days.
This is a very well written article. However, I have read that argument for disco's downfall being the emergence of 'manufactured' music before. I never can understand what is wrong with manufactured music if it's enjoyable. People make this criticism of today's boybands; although I dont care much for them I dont see why they are any different to bands/ artists who write their own material. Its all music at the end of the day isn't it? I personally feel that record companies & the media turned their backs on disco because alot of the acts either weren't very visual e.g.MFSB or were a bit outrageous e.g.Sylvester & were therefore difficult to market to the masses in the emerging video generation of the early 80's. That's my take on the oft-discussed topic anyway.
...ya gotta beat the street......
I finally read this one yesterday and its' good, specially in its Miami focus. (Did anyone see KC actual show? I'd like to hear about that.)
I wonder if someone has that old article cited in the Miami Herald's story. Ditto about the famous Nik Cohn's article which in turn triggered the SNF movie.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
