When they released their first album, San Francisco, I immediately became a Village People fan. I loved their music, arrangements, etc. But being a vocalist and a musician myself, when I first heard Village People, in particular the song "San Francisco," I had to know who the Lead Vocalist and Front Person was, and it was none other than Victor Willis.
I am sure Victor has been covered in this forum in the past. Around 2002, when I started to restir my disco juices, I started to wonder what happened to him and what he was doing. I took to the internet in pursuit of finding out more about him during that time.
During that time Victor was not doing so well. If I remember correctly he was homeless, had been incarcerated numerous times for various crimes, and was abusing drugs.
Of late, I have found out that through a Court ordered drug treatment program, Victor Willis, ex-Lead Singer, Producer, Composer and Writer of various Village People songs and albums, and with other Producers and Executive Producers is doing just fine thank you.
