Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

Slightly recovered from yesterday's (Sunday, October 7, 2007) Remember the Party Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer event here in San Francisco. WOW!!! Over a thousand people showed up to our little party! One of our producers noticed the line went down the block at one point. Medium Rare Music sold out of all the tickets they were selling for us a day early. Online sales sold at a rate of speed we've never seen before.

Lots of people wanted to celebrate the grand history of the Troc! We even had the organizers from the Love Parade Parties in NYC and the One Night Only Parties in Los Angeles honor us by flying in for the Troc's 30th Anniversary. I saw legendary DJs, Lary Sanders, Steve Fabus (who also spun at Troc) and Paul Goodyear (more about him later!). Jerry told me that DJ Tony Moran was also at our Event (Wow!!! I wish a certain DJ had introduced me!)!!! DJ Phill Mezza flew in from half way round the world to join our celebration!

Everybody wanted to party just like we did during Troc's peak years. In my opinion, our incredible DJ, Jerry Bonham, and our fabulous lighting team recreated the joy and excitement of a Troc Party perfectly!

Jerry played a NINE hour set of authentic Trocadero disco from the 1970s to the early 1980s. I'll post this terrific list in a bit. However, before you read his playlist, I want to invite you to experience his magic with a 3 song set in an 11 plus minute video clip of the party. I couldn't post the video to YouTube because there's at 10 minute limit. However, MySpace allowed me to post the full clip on my page. My MySpace id is “keefelc”. Scroll down about half way and you'll see the clip on the right hand side next to a slideshow of photos I took from the evening. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the mix between the 2nd and 3rd song! What a beautiful combination that I never dreamed would mix together so flawlessly.

Okay, when you're done, come back and I'll have the playlist for you!

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

Thanks for adding the right link to my MySpace page, Videoskooter (I don't really know what I'm doing when I'm setting up that page :icon_lol:)!! I couldn't get it to work right! I have more clips which I'll be adding in the near future plus we'll be adding the longer clips to the Remember the Party website later on.

NRG, SandraDee made it to the party!!! I was so happy to finally meet him later in the evening. Unfortunately, since I was working (filming the evening), I couldn't talk to him for very long. Then he got lost in the crowd! Of course, JeffH, the Disco Kid and Discovery were there!

I'll start my recap hopefully this weekend. However, you folks might want to check out this lovely blog written about this Sunday's event. I should give you a SPOILER ALERT - what's this about a guy in a glitter ball coat??? Please stay tuned!

Fantastic set!!!!! I'm still playing last year's CDs in the car, in the house, in the garden and on my mp3 player!!

Any heads-up on when the CD 'tin' will be ready for this year's event?

    Hi Keefe,

Looks like another great party!!! Congrats to all involved!!!

Jerry Bonham woulda had me dancing non-stop [if I were still able to DANCE at that point in the evenings festivities!] from the sublime transition of the uptempo "Paradise Island" into the sizzling lowgrade sleaze tempo of "Love Hangover" til the very end of that GREAT morning music set..."Cherchez La Femme"/ "More, More, More"/ "Back in Love Again"/ "I"m Gonna Let My heart Do the Walking"--WOW what a TREAT to hear these records played at Troc!!!!!

Can't wait to heard what it all sounds like and for your play by play recap!!!

    GO KEEFE!!! :icon_exclaim::icon_exclaim::icon_exclaim:

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

Thank you TDK, KayJayEm and Marky! This party was my absolute favorite, sprained ankle and everything!! The music, lights and energy literally made the pain disappear (well, some extra strength Tylenol also helped :icon_lol:).

You'll be happy to hear that this afternoon I met up with our producers, Chris and Richard, SFBeary (who I forgot to mention was also at the Party all night long!) AND our DJ extraordinaire, Mr. Jerry Bonham! We spent a delightful afternoon at Cafe Flore having dessert and beverages and talking about last Sunday. However, most importantly, I had to give Jerry the masters of the CDs we recorded! He heads home tomorrow and he'll then start putting everything together to get the CD sets manufactured. He'll also be working with Richard for some snazzy artwork packaging. This year's set will consist of 8 CDs - around TEN spectacular hours of music!!!

I'm still amazed how so many people dance from the beginning to end including a husband and wife team now in their late 60s. They were Trocladytes back in the day and they've loved coming back for the RtPs. They were on the dance floor all night long! Isn't that marvelous? They also paid us a wonderful compliment that this party was the closest to recreating the Troc!

I've been writing down notes and I hope to have the first part of my recap soon! Also, wait until you see the photos and videos from the party coming to the www.remembertheparty.com website! The little clip I posted for you to preview is just the tip of the iceberg!!!

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

    Hello Keefe (& co!..),

Just been googling anything I can find on Sunday and stumbled over here - forgot I became a member of discoworld some time ago now. Lucky my disco aliases and passwords never change so I slipped back in and fit like a glove.

After that rambling intro - it's Phill here (Paul & Wilma's mate) - I’m tossing up what we should re-name Paul after his "Stella" performance the other night.

Should it be "Joseph" after his amazing technicolour dreamcoat performance?
    Or
"Megatron Man" as a perfectly suited homage to our late hero, Mr Cowley?

Honestly, the Trocadero Transfer 30th Anniversary party CHANGED MY LIFE EVERYONE!!!! - Hear that!!!!! It was amazing. I travelled half way across the planet to experience it and have loved disco since my mother stopped breastfeeding me back in 1975 (true story, but won't go into that now) - maybe I was breastfed disco, not quite sure, but anyway - moving right along. My point being is, I've ALWAYS LOVED DISCO, FELT DISCO and been PASSIONATE about disco BUT it was not until I went to the Trocadero Transfer on Sunday night and experienced it, that I got the keys to THAT FEELING THAT DISCO MAGIC CREATES.

Words could not describe the thoughts and feelings that overwhelmed me as I danced around the room (LITERALLY - I'm a wanderer in clubs, always have been, always will be) with a club full of strangers (bar a few friends that introduced me to the venue) EVERYONE in the room UNITED and DANCED IN THE NAME OF LOVE and EVERYONE LOVED ONE ANOTHER, nothing else mattered, no other feeling or thought could enter our minds. The music, the lyrics, the energy was all about love and living for the moment, the now.

There were many highlights throughout the night, but I think the pivotal point for me was dancing on the stage to LINDA CLIFFORD's "IF MY FRIENDS COULD SEE ME NOW" - I had left my friends behind to experience this special and unique ritual gathering and one thought at that moment was "Holy F***, If my friends could see me now, this magic in the room, the dancing, the love, the lights, the various walks of life that have entered this space to dance and love, oh if only my friends could see me now, they could see the happiness in my eyes and the tears of joy I’m about to release" That was the first of many cries I had on the dancefloor that night and all of my cries were tears of joy, never pain, all I wanted and embraced that night was that feeling over and over again.

Another spectacle I'll never forget (and doubt it will repeat) was to dance alongside Disco God - Paul Parker (whom I'd been introduced to earlier that evening and might I add, looks exceptionally spectacular now - EVEN MORESO THAN back in the day) and look into his eyes, see his happiness and hear him sing along at the top of his voice to Cerrone's "GIVE ME LOVE" whilst he danced the night away on the Trocadero Transfer dancefloor. - WOW - You don't moments like that anymore. His voice, his charm and his energy was amazing and I was delighted to be in his presence at that point in time.

I could go on an rant more about the feelings I had that night, the mysteries that resolved, the doors that opened, the missing pieces of my life that were found, the visions, the emotions - the everything that the Trocadero Transfer did for me.

I’ll stop there though and conclude with - THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN RTP. YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER!!!!

What another stellar line up of songs ... I highlighted the ones I'd push and force my way onto the dance floor for ....even if dancing on everyones toes ... but really these and so many others here would I cherish hearing in a club like that.
Youngsters ... these events are where you can really hear what these songs were meant to be .....train plane or subway ... get there when you can ....

My one big question PROMISES by Barbra Streisand ... what is this .... a disco song ??? :icon_rolleyes:

looking forward to the night's details Keefe :icon_cool:

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

Hi all! Isn't Phill's posting simply wonderful? Makes all the work put into the RtPs worthwhile!

BTW, welcome back Marky and Remicks! Missed you!! I always love reading what songs you would have danced to if you had been in the house. :icon_biggrin:

Anyway, here's the first part of my recap! It's kind of an introduction to how the party developed so I hope I don't bore everyone.

Sunday morning, October 7, 2007, I rolled out of bed. I was surprised I was actually able to get a good night’s rest. In a few hours, we would be opening the doors to Remember the Party 6. The nights before a RtP in the past have normally been quite restless with nervous worries and anticipation! However, this one seemed different. Usually, for the past parties, we would be on the edges of our seats waiting for the completion of the installation of various items which are crucial for our parties.

Last year’s party was particularly scary with all sorts of unknowns including the installation of the special light equipment we add to the Glas Kat Club and Jerry Bonham’s flight to San Francisco. We did our best to have confidence that the party would go off without a hitch. Except for some problems at the beginning (which were fixed to be workable) and a half hour opening delay, the party turned out to be a success! The floor was packed, Jerry’s music was flawless, and people were happy to be dancing the night away to the groove sound of the Trocadero!

The success resulted in our producers considering a sixth RtP. The question before us, though, was what would be our theme?? What could top the theme of RtP 5? After considering all sorts of ideas, we were perplexed!

Then, at one of our post party meetings, our producers told us someone had just asked if we knew that the 30th anniversary of the Troc was coming up? BINGO! The ideas started pouring in and they soon knew we had to celebrate Troc’s pearl anniversary.

Immediately, our producer Chris told us he immediately pictured June Cleaver (the Beaver’s Mom!) walking around her home wearing a tasteful strand of pearls! Since the 30 year anniversary is pearls, we simply knew Mrs. Cleaver had to be part of one of our party announcements!

Jerry Bonham was with us at that meeting, and he immediately grew excited about crafting an evening’s playlist of Troc’s favorites. Right then and there, we began to bombard the poor man with all sorts of titles! But do you know, he took mental note of most of them since we heard many of those songs at RtP 6.

Also at that meeting, we wondered who we would use as our lighting installation company since the one we used at RtP 5 just did not get it! Jerry asked if our producers if they would be interested in talking to the lady who did the lights for the club where he did his modern music gigs? That turned out to be an outstanding suggestion!

Anyway, jumping back to the morning of October 7th, 2007, I found I was relatively calm. The night before, I started packing all of the supplies and equipment I had to bring to the club into my car. Jerry Bonham was already in the City and had been to the club earlier in the week to test out and tweak the sound system. The additional lights and mirror ball cluster had been installed and programmed way in advance and our lighting team was able to rehearse some of the special sets planned for the party!

Plus, the prior Friday night, our producers called with FANTASTIC news! They were just told that the MAYOR of San Francisco was giving us a Proclamation that October 7, 2007 was officially “Remember the Party Day”! I could not believe my ears.

You know though, there were a lot of people really excited about this party. Tickets were selling at the fastest pace we’ve ever experienced. Radio stations were contacting us for interviews. A couple who met at last year’s party wanted to have a commitment ceremony at this year’s party.

Several member of the family of the original owner of Trocadero, the late Dick Collier Jr., were in regular contact with our producers because they were so happy we were celebrating the legendary club Dick had created. We had just added an extensive collection of never before seen photos of Sylvester to post on the www.remembertheparty.com website. Now, the Colliers informed us they had tons of Dick’s memorabilia from the Troc to lend us.

All of these events gave me the sense THIS party was meant to happen. I was soon to find out my hunch was so right!

Remicks, yes the 12" is a re-edit of the LP version, but a nice loud pressing on the 12".

Sounds like it was a great party. I could slap myself now for not coming - funny thing is my partner and I talked about going about month earlier and I had vacation time the week after. Guess I'll have to make sure I come to #7 - btw, any plans for #7 yet? And where will we be able to purchase copies the CD set when its finally released?
    Cheers

Wow, phillygroove's comments say it all & so well! I'm not as good with words but I'd just like to thank Keefe & everyone else involved for making it a night I won't forget in a hurry. Many of my all-time faves were played & how appropriate to play Trocadero Bleu Citron by Alec C!:icon_biggrin: It's taken me 'til now to recover from all that dancing. I had a sore throat & could hardly talk for the rest of my holiday (some would say that's a blessing!) after all the singing & screaming I was doing & when I left to walk back to my hotel I couldn't feel my legs walking up Ellis Street! (I found someone else to feel them! Only kidding.) After a couple of hours the place was packed out & I'm sorry if I stepped on peoples' toes (especially when I was leaping about to Magnifique!); Keefe I can see you having to get a bigger venue for these RTPs!:icon_lol:
This is the first time I've heard most of these tracks actually in a club environment; when I heard Gino Soccio, Sharon Browne & Love Deluxe I thought my plane crashed & I'd gone to heaven & the music just got better from there. I got back to the UK & horrible reality yesterday & it all feels like a surreal dream now.
P.S. There were quite a few very sexy men about too.

Little odd memories keep coming back to me in my jet-lagged stupor: the thunderous reactions to Claudja Barry, the Cerrone medley & Diana's Love Hangover, & when the instrumental bit of Make That Feeling Come Again was playing a bloke stormed off the dancefloor in disgust saying he hated it (the only negative reaction I saw all night I hasten to add) & he didn't look like Quinny so it mustn't have been him!

'Whatcha Gonna Do About It' by Rozalin Woods is one on the playlist I haven't got so the next day I found a 12" copy in Recycled Records in the Haight area. Yet another of those under-rated tracks from '79.

Oh Sandy, good to hear you made it home safe and sound. Many THANKS to you for making the journey to Troc's 30th anniversary!!! I didn't know you arrived so early in the evening. Wish I had found you because Jerry Bonham, Barry Walters, our producers Chris and Richard, all wanted to meet you. However, now we know you were much too busy having fun on the dancefloor! Quite understandable!

How many boxes of records and CDs did you bring with you on the plane ride home???

Remicks, I'm glad you remember Barbra's "Promises" - one of my favorite cuts from one of my favorite of her albums! I was so happy when Jerry sneaked this tune in! :icon_biggrin:

Bob, the 8 CD set of the soundtrack, which is TEN (I don't know why I wrote 9 hours earlier in this thread) hours in length, will most likely be available via Medium Rare Music again. Jerry estimated they should be ready in about 4 to 6 weeks!

I'm almost ready to post Part Two of my recap. Just need to check it for spelling errors.

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

    Part Two of my recap:

Once we had the theme for RtP 6, the creative juices really started to pour into the minds of our producers, our lighting people and Jerry Bonham! They knew they wanted to a sense of CELEBRATION to as many elements of the Party as possible. That was what we hoped would be reflected in the music, the lights and all the special flourishes that would be peppered throughout the evening.

Jerry knew he wanted his musical choices to celebrate the favorites of the Troc while tying the music together with a warm and exciting emotional ribbon. No problem for a man with his musical talents! However, as is his norm, Jerry did his homework to put together a set that would accurately represent the music played at Trocadero during it’s heyday.

Our lighting team knew they wanted to light the club so that the lights would celebrate the infamous light shows at the Trocadero. Our producers were ecstatic when they visited the Glas Kat and found that the club had installed a new elaborate lighting tressel up on the ceiling. With this incredible new lighting equipment in place, they could now use their budget to invest in additional enhancements to really bring back the Troc sparkle!

The team almost immediately decided they wanted three arc lamps in operation this year, just like how it was at Trocadero. Chris, who was part of Trocadero’s original lighting team, would make a return engagement as part of the our arc lamp team. I can tell you he was excited about the magic that could be created!

At prior RtPs, people have asked if they could have birthday parties in the club during the events. RtP 6 was no exception – one of our major sponsors wanted to celebrate his 50th during Troc’s 30th. How could we say no to such a milestone plus it would add to the overall sense of a celebration going on at the club!

We thought that would be enough. However, our producers then received a very special request from a couple who met at last year’s party and fell in love. They wanted to have a commitment ceremony at RtP 6! How romantic!

So, those of you attending may have noticed an elaborately decorated table in the lobby of the club with somebody’s Mom passing out cookies decorated with a couple’s photo. That was their way of celebrating their momentous occasion with everybody who came to RtP 6!

As in the past, this RtP was a fundraiser for Under One Roof, an organization which generates unrestricted funds for agencies that provide HIV/AIDS education and support services. At last year’s RtP, they set up, for the very first time, a table in the club’s lobby to pass out information about UOR. They had a very successful and fun evening and they wanted to participate in the celebration of Troc’s 30th.

We came up with a terrific idea that they would pass out faux pearl necklaces to the first 500 guests visiting their table. Of course, they hoped that people would also pick up info about their store and possibly leave a donation. I saw tons of people with pearl necklaces on the dancefloor that night, so I truly hope that was a sign they were successful!

    NEXT: The party begins!

Re: Playlist for RtP Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Trocadero Transfer

    Hi Keefe,

Oh yes - those pearls!!!!!! I donated/supported and got me a set alright! I was lucky enough to be handed a limited edition 'mirrorball set' for my contribution. The fact I travelled half way across the globe also meant I ended up with some white pearls - so I handed another dollar over again, it was for an excellent cause afterall.

I am SOOOOO glad I have those pearls!!!! I am currently shopping for a frame and glass case to put those and my lovely white leather hot shorts in that I wore on the night. Thank you for that magical touch of faux jewellery for the evening, it was a nice sparkling finish to the night.

Another story about those pearls if I may add - on my return home on the airplane, i was flicking through the inflight entertainment and came across a documentary on New Orleans Mardi Gras so I decided to watch it. The documentary focused on the history of the beads handed out at Mardi Gras (which included the same pearls we shared at Troc), the manufacturing process and a 'behind the scenes' insight to what the pearls/beads meant to those involved in manufacturing and receiving them. The documentary was quite an eye opener and often sad in parts - which resulted in me crying on the plane, after analysing what i just watched, I felt releived that WE AT THE TROCADERO THAT NIGHT were able to take and use the pearls for a positive cause and bring new hope into this world for a brighter future - to symbolize hope and care for one another with them. Thank you for turning the pearl manufacturing process into a positive and useful cause - I am honoured to own them!

Still glowing with disco glitter from that night too by the way.

Dozens! It's a wonder the plane could take off under the weight. The 2nd hand record stores in S.F. are alot cheaper then here in the UK & the quality is better too. It was a shame to see some of the places I bought stuff in 2000 have closed down but I found a couple of new ones including 'Grooves' on Market Street where I got Ullanda McCullough, Dante's Inferno & Ritchie Family LPs for only 2 dollars each!
