Paul was never taken seriously as a singer,His biggest success was writing "Last Dance".
and the DiscoWedding album was considered EXTRA CHEESE to lot's of even the most liberal of disco fans.
although I thought it was FUN..
why was there no chart action on "Disco Wedding" "Honeymoon in Puerto Rico"? seems like your basic disco jam. I don't get it???

Instrumentally is cool but vocals....NOT
oh well...i've just checked that track on youtube and is a good one! maybe i have to check the lyrics (i have to listen several times songs in english to understand it all :icon_redface:)
Paul Jabara is a guilty pleasure of mine. The Disco Wedding suite is cheesy as hell but that's what makes it what it is. One of the things about Paul's writing is that he kind of has a John Waters oeuvre about him. Highlights things you wouldn't think of at any given moment. His lyrics have a very raw, down-to-earth vibe to them. As for his singing, well....it's not the greatest (I'd even say the same for his speaking voice. Even gay men like myself can only take his flaming hysteria so much.) I think his songs "Pleasure Island" and "Dance" are exceptional, along with the "Shut Out" medley with Donna Summer (which was great!).
"Everyone knows the real reason why you got that part it was the time you spent on that casting couch"--Antoine Merriwether
"Excuse me, Miss Thing, but both of us spent time on that couch"--Blaine Edwards

Nice track. I definitely got a get me a copy! :)
Disco Funk
You can't beat the mid-80's camp of Ocho Rios for pure dancefloor fun! Like the song, love the video!
Jabara's 3rd album [with its STREISAND inspired cover shot] has always been my favorite album from him.
It is very over the top and bordering on cartoonish; but the drum sound was tougher and the DONNA SUMMER presence was all over it.
It's silly sugary sweet fun from the Casablanca factory.![]()

I remember meeting Paul while spinning at the Cabaret in LA back in 1975. He was with Mark Paul Simon and they were promoting a 45 on A&M by JABARA. Can anyone verify the song and label?

Thanks for the info----Let me do some more research---

mrbmarco...
In the Disco Consensus Compilation Charts for 1975 that I compiled [see thread above on this page]...Paul Jabara charted with this.....
Year-end ranking:
304) ONE MAN AIN'T ENOUGH - (Paul) Jabara
(A&M) C= 5; F= 7; Total points = 12
2 weeks on the chart (11/8; 11/22/75); Peak: # 34
The Billboard chart just said "Jabara"...it charted once on Colony Records (chart C--NYC retailer) and once on a guest city chart from San Francisco (F)
Then in 1976...he charted with the A&M single of "Dance"....later released on a Casablanca LP.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
By chart action do you mean Bilboard pop charts? If thats what ya mean I can answer that one as with most great disco classics...cause its too good for pop!
The 12" mix of "Disco Wedding/Honeymoon" was VERY popular in the clubs back when (so popular it may have even charted the disco charts? not sure on that one, would have to do research)...on the 12" they remixed it totaly and got rid of all the sillyness.

mrbmarco...did you see the articles I posted regarding Marc Paul Simon & the Cabaret in LA from Billboard & Record World? 3 articles in the Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus charts from 1975...
The second article has quotes from people who worked at the Cabaret in LA and the 3rd is all about Marc Paul Simon.
Maybe you did and that's why you mentioned them...but just in case you didn't...YOU WERE THERE MAKING HISTORY!!!!![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
Regarding Paul Jabara's Honeymoon In Puerto Rico... I couldn't find any evidence of it charting on Billboard's Disco Action charts in 1979...this was the year of too much product...so maybe it was lost in the shuffle..
Pulled the 12" last night and chuckled at the cover featuring Paul as the groom and Paul in drag as the bride [eerie shades of Elaine May's daughter Jeannie Berlin in "The Heartbreak Kid" !!!]
This record may have been too campy for all but the most GAY, GAY, GAY discos....![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
What a coincidence 'cos I bought 2 Paul Jabara LPs last week in San Francisco as I haven't got any & I was only aware of 'Pleasure Island' from the Casablanca box set & of course Dance, Its Raining Men & Last Dance that other acts had hits with. 'The Third Album' is far camper than I expected with its wedding medley & the photo of him as the groom & the bride! 'Shut Out' is also fairly camp with 'Yankie Doodle Dandy'(he makes Jacques Morali's stuff look really butch!). How strange that considering Paul was so camp his acting roles often seemed to be playing straight men in such films as TGIF & Midnight Cowboy.:icon_confused:
...ya gotta beat the street......
