Quantize - Yesterday Once More
This is one beautiful NRG cover. Very Karen-like.
Very lovely.I expected a cheesy cover and found this nice surprise.
I've been lately rediscovering the wonders of the Carpenters' musical output and am wondering if there are any worthwhile Disco versions of their songs I should be on the lookout for. I have Gwen Guthrie's WONDERFUL version of "Close to You" from the mid-80's and have only HEARD OF "Disco Kids" version of this same tune (anyone here have it? what's it like?). I know some female singer sang a HI-NRG version of "Yesterday Once More" and APPARENTLY she sounded JUST LIKE Karen Carpenter but, again I don't know it...I think "Top of the World", done properly (i.e without the cheese factor)would make a terrific, happy dance tune! THANKS!!

I have the "Disco Kids" LP, you can read my review of the album here: http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3325_0_2_0_C/
As I said in my review, I believe "Close to you" to be the highlight of the LP, probably because it's just such a great tune in the first place.
Of course, the song has been turned into a dancefloor stomper, and the vocalist is a falsetto male rather than female, so you can think of it as a different interpreation of the song, as opposed to an attempt to create a disco version of Karen Carpenter.
In fact Karen went some way to doing this herself; you may be aware of her "Lovelines" track from 1979, which was not released at the time (I believe Richard Carpenter disapproved of Karen releasing disco music).
A CD was released with this and other tracks recorded at the time in 1996, I've not heard the other tracks.

Thanks for the info, DarrenS...I've been curious about that Disco Kids LP. As for the Karen Carpenter cd, I have not heard it yet. I gotta get it,even though the reviews I've read of it is that it is disco-"lite" (not that there's anything wrong with that! It's on my list...
Another Carpenters track I forgot:
For All We Know- Norma Lewis

*****
This LP has a mid tempo disco version of CLOSE TO YOU
although I am making you aware of it more so than recommending it ...
