some of my favourite new findings

    A merry Christmas to all!
I’ve been gone for a while,
but have been collecting disco all the time.
These are some of my current favourite new picks:

    * The Strikers – Body Music - Special Disco mix AD ROLAND (Ramshorn, 1981)

    * Michael Zager Band – Shot in the dark - BREAKDOWN MIX (great!) (CBS, 1984)

    * G.Q. – Disco Nights (rock-freak) (Arista, 1979)

    * Sharon Redd – Love how you feel - DUB Version (PRELUDE, 1983)

    * Captain Sky – Don’t touch that dial / Changes (Philly world records, 1982)

    * Unlimited touch – I hear music in the streets (Prelude records, 1980)

    * Instant Funk – Bodyshine - From the 1979 Salsoul record ‘Witch Doctor’ (special Package for disco dj’s, contains 2 12” 33 1/3 records)
    >> A little help with this mixer of this song. The cover says it’s a Larry Levan Mix, but on the record it says mix by Tee Scott. Which is correct?

    * Cashmere – Do it anny way ya wanna (Philly world records, -?-)

    * Sinnamon – He’s gonna take you home (to his house) – a FANTASTIC instrumental Shep Pettibone mix (Becket records, 1982)

    * The Clash – The Magnificent dance (CBS, 1981)

    * Vaughan Mason –Big rocking guitar – super funky track, even better than its A-side Bounce, rock, skate, roll! (Ramshorn , 1982 re-release)

*Cori Josias – Takin it straight – nice electric-disco (Carrere records, 1983)

    * Rockers Revenge feat Donnie Calvin – Walking / Rocking on sunshine – AAAAH what a record! A Arthur baker production and Jellybean mix. Both version are superb pre-house tracks(Streetwise records, 1982)

    * Poussez – Come on and do it (remix) –an alphonze mouson production (Vanguard, 1979

And finally 2 funky disco hiphop tracks:
    * Whodini – The Haunted house of rock – Haunted mix (Jive, 1983)
    * Whodini – Rap Machine - Dub Version (Jive, 1983)

I hope ya like my selection and can help me with the remixer issue!

Nice selection 808 - I love Body Music myself.

I think the cashmere track u talk about is from ´85. It's on the B-side on the "Can I" 12" (at least the one I own)

Lately, I've been in a moore laid back slow groove mood.
I've been groovin' to these albums:

Tawatha Agee - Welcome To my Dream (epic, 1986)
Beau Williams - No More Tears (capitol, 1986)
Giorge Pettus - Giorge Pettus (MCA, 1987)
    Isaac Hayes - U-Turn (CBS, 1986)
Shirley Jones - Always in the mood (Phil. Int, 1986)

Not much disco in this, but I suppose christmas is a time for relaxing.
    :)

I know this package. I believe Tee Scott was the remixer for this song. His name, as remixer, is also on the first promo 12" copy of this song which runs about 8:30. Larry, if I'm not mistaken, remixed "I've Got My Mind Made Up".

Hi nonkel, I remember and like several of your choices... I'm glad finally someone remembers that Vaughan Mason track! In my mind it was "Big guitar"... but then I remember it from a local vinyl compilation so... But it's a great track and I agree totally with you. I remember on first hearing thinking the DJ was playint two different songs, mixing forward and back... Don't know if Mr. Mason or his producer was thinking about this when they did the mix.
I have the "normal" LP edition of Instant Funk's "Witch doctor", I'll check it at home about that mix.

Hi, i hope we'll find out who the real remixer is for that 'bodyshine' track. I know I have seen it mentioned on some websites with the Larry Levan mix, and that what the cover of the album says, only the record says Tee Scott. I dunno much about this Tee Scott anyway. Who was this, what more did he mix?
Also on the instant funk album the track 'Slap, slap, lickedy slap' is mixed by Larry Levan. (as mentioned on the record & sleeve)

And is my album something exclusive? Because it says NOT FOR SALE on the records. And NOT FOR SALE / DEMONSTRATION on the sleeve. Was this a regular thing back in disco days to release dj only promo copies?

Ah, and finally The Strikers – Body Music - Special Disco mix AD ROLAND (Ramshorn, 1981) is a one side Ramshorn release wich surprised me also, because i only knew the 12'' Remix by Francois Kevorkian & Larry Levan.
The AD Roland mix is a more intrumental percussive version. Who is this Ad Roland?

A long shot but I reckon AD Roland probably refers to a drum machine that's been mixed in to make it sound more percussive. Am I on the right track do you think?

I did some research and it seems there's a guy from Holland who goes by the name of Ad Roland.

He was involved in radio broadcasting in the seventies and also worked worked as a radio DJ.

So either it's a machine or a real person. :-?

Hey K-bee, knowing that Ramshorn was a dutch record label and Ad is a common dutch name, i'll go for Ad Roland, the dutch DJ! :)

Hey, did anyone ever check the dutch Ramshorn website?
    http://www.ramshorn.nl/
What a shame to see this great label release only bad hardcore, trance, goa and gangsterrap compilation cd's these days.
They still have a small section of disco vinyl for sale, but it aren't their best records, they're fockin'expensive and it's always the last copy left

ah whatever, I'll always buy my ramshorns when cratediggin! Would't wanna miss the charm of it.

    greets,
    808

Let's go back before our most memorable dee-jays, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy. Before our most memorable clubs, the Garage (NYC), Warehouse (Orig Chicago) and Music Box (Chicago). There was another lost but not forgotten jock, a foundation upon which many others have built careers without even knowing it; DJ Tee Scott. If you are a true dee-jay and not a record spinner like so many today, if you truly know of oldschool, you should at once have heard something of DJ Tee Scott

I'm here again. My LP copy of "Witch doctor" names Larry Levan as mixer in two songs: "Slap, slap, lickey lap" (7.12) and "Bodyshine" (7.00), that is, the first song on each side. The other songs are shorter and there's no mention of another mixer. This information is from the cover of the album (it's a local edition).
    Hope this helps.

Nonkel, Cashmere's 'Do It Anyway you wanna' was released in 1983 in the UK on the Philly World label.

K-Bee, I love that Shilrey Jones track from 1986. In fact the whole LP was great. I was very upset to read somewhere that this under-rated ex-Jones Girl died recently.

Tee Scott was the dj at Better Days in New York City, a predominantly black, gay bar & disco. He started there in the early 70's (1972 I think). He is considered one of the pioneers and was a sweetheart of a man. Click here http://www.deephousepage.com/scott.htm to see a picture of Tee and read a short article. Tee did remixes for Emergency, West End, Quality and Salsoul labels, amongst others. Remember "Love Thang" by First Choice? That's Tee. Sadly, he passed away in 1995.
