    Rinder & Lewis' Midnight Wind

I recently got a promo copy of this little LP from 1980.. I know AVI were a cheap label, but that cover with the low-quality paper pasted over the cardboard makes it look at least 2 decades older.. As far as the music is concerned though, it's a pretty short LP, but it's quality Rinder & Lewis..

Anyway, I recall reading here a little while back about some of their early 80s productions on AVI, where they were basically recycling their own material to finish out their contract (ie. that Cheetah LP).. As much as I enjoy the Midnight Wind LP, I wonder if that is the case on this record as well.. I know "I Can't Hide It" is a rehash of the Le Pamplemousse track, anyone know if that's the case for any of the other tracks on the album "Shoplifting My Love" (which wasn't even credited to them on the LP, but who knows) and "Rocket"?

    Thanks in advance

I think ROCKET is an original from this album. I believe I have all Le Pamplemousse's albums and this track isn't on any of them. By the way, the Midnight Wind record is not an album... it is a 12 inch single.

Maybe Rinder & Lewis didn't have enough material for an album, but wanted to record ROCKET (maybe they thought it had enough commercial appeal and tried it for a 12'' single).

They recorded it and (maybe) because of lack of other stuff recycled CAN'T HIDE IT by Le Pamplemousse and released the tracks as Midnight Wind, not Le Pamplemousse (God knows why).

I also don't know why they would release an album with EL COCO remixed/recycled material under the name of CHEETAH. Why not use EL COCO? Doesn't it seem more logic to use a name that was already familiar to disco fans ?

Was this ever even released commercially? I have only ever seen reference to promo copies. It could be that they were planning to do a full album but scrapped it.

Hey, thanks for the confirmation Paulo!

Anyway, you're right about it not being a full album.. The label on my copy calls it a Mini-LP, so same thing as an 12'' EP, I guess.. Yeah, I wonder why all the assumed names, too.. Sticking with the more familiar names would make more sense to me, too. I'm guessing maybe it was not to make the recycling so obvious? Whatever the case though, "Rocket" has really become a fave of mine now!

I'm wondering the same thing. The only two entries that I've found (the one on the main site, and the very recent submission on Discogs) are both promos as well..

    About the names...
...By then DISCO was in ''decay time'' and because of this (maybe) if Rinder & Lewis had used EL COCO and LE PAMPLEMOUSSE's names, it would generate some unwanted associations... while CHEETAH and MIDNIGHT WIND would be 'something new'...... I really don't know. it's just speculation.

I like that too thanks to Graham.

What I like about Le Pamplemousse is that it is a funkier version of El Coco... which is a more deep-disco band. (And before someone criticises... I've seen this definition used in internet to make a distinction between long club music... ...opposed to the commercial 3 minute pop radio disco songs).
