Marcio,
those are the first come up in my mind:
- T-Connection "At midnight"
- Supermax "African Blood"
- Propaganda "Dr. Mabuse"
- Miami Sound Machine "Dr. Beat" instr.
- Bruce Johnston "Pipeline"
- NY Community Choir "Express yourself"
bye!
When I want to heard drums/percussion in a disco song, I generally look for...
1) "Anger" by Laurin Rinder & W. Michael Lewis
2) "Look For Love" by Cerrone
3) "Let Go" by France Joli
4) "After Dark" by Pattie Brooks
5) "Summer Love" by Musique
Do you have others examples ?
.

People all over the world, It\'s time for love & understanding, Come together!!
how can U forget this one:
rock the boat-Forrester
the long version (12")
It may not be real drums but check out:
Give It Up For Love (Club Mix) by Steven Danté. (cooltempo, 1985)
The definitive track for mid-80s drum programming :D
Maybe you guys can drive me to the title of my most looked for mystery song. It's from 1981/82, almost the same speed as Cerrone's "Supernatural" and ends with a long instrumental sequence with percussion and a sax doing figures in the background.
The rhythm track is probably machines -but with a good groove-, the bass maybe a keyboard Bernie Worrell's style, there's some piano here and there, and the main melody is sung by a group of males or a single male overdubbed.
Sadly, I didn't know English by then but the rhymes sounded like "night/light" and "feel/real", with abundance of the former.
Of course, I don't know neither song title nor artist. My guess -from the long lost mix tape where I had it- is that it's from Prelude. Six to eight minutes long.
Any clue?
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
Can I throw a song in? I'm not sure if this is what you want, but how about "Beat the clock" by Sparks. That has some great drums toward the end...real hot. Also maybe "Angel face" by Shock.
\"Dancing the night away\", forever!!!
Don\'t give up the dance.
An excellent subject! Funnily enough I was thinking about running a similar thread myself!
As a regular clubber, it was always the percussion break that did it for me when dancing to a record - the stripping down of the instruments to a drum and congas and percussion was the real highlight/climax of any dance record for me.
Some of the most memorable percussion breaks IMHO:
Fat Larry's Band - Looking For Love Tonight (especially with the drum roll just before the break - really special!)
Ripple - The Beat Goes On (having danced to the record for 5 mins of so you get this killer break right at the end - heaven but wears you out!)
Baby'O - In The Forest (what an intro to that record!)
Instant Funk - Got My Mind Made Up (when the remix came out in England it caused a sensation!)
Willie Bobo - Always There (the best percussive jazz fusion record that was ever played in the UK soul clubs - brilliant to dance to!)
T-Connection - Do What You Wanna Do (that first break is absolutely glorious!)
Slick - Space Bass (fantastic percussive rhythms all the way through)
Candido - Jingo (a real percussive favourite for the Jazz Pilgrims way back when!)
:)
If it moves - funk it!!
Nice to bring up the willie bobo version of "Always There", Jazz.
It's not nearly as famous as the Ronnie Laws & Incognito version, but in my opinion it's way more funky :)
You want hot percussion you got to get "Never Gonna Let You Go" by Jobell & The Orchestra de Salsa. This 1976 track which briefly appeared at the lower end of the Billboard Disco top 20 has a stop & go structure. A jazzy male vocalist sings, the violins and the brass screech, the seriously latin beat edges a break, there's a second of silence and then the drums! Burn baby burn, this record is amaaaazing! Mix it out of the final section of Mandrill's "Disco Lypso" and carry on with "Se A Cabo" by James Last. Add Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn The Beat Around". Percussive UltraDisco!
Happy feet - Al Hudson & The Partners
The break - Kat Mandu
Give me a break - Vivien Vee
Love's theme - Love Unlimited Orchestra
Love to love - Bimbo Jet
Philadelphia - Brooklyn Friends (not disco, but dance from 1995 by David Morales)
Cafe - DD Sound
Summer breeze - Baiser
Put your feet to the beat - Ritchie Family
And of course my mystery song which I have on tape and I think it is called 'Star naked' by Jeffry Lake. Does anybody know this track - I#d love to own it on vinyl. Sounds Italo to me!
