Hi Dayna, absolutely looking forward to read this!

And yes, I have a question! We all know that Miss Houston is responsable for a load of Disco standards. As I've heard some of the tracks on her new album I wondered how she felt doing a cover of some other star's legendary songs, namely Sylvester's "Disco Heat/You Make Me Feel"?

Thelma is giving both a special but great treatment by turning 'em partly into a slow!

And, oh yes, please say hello to her!!! :icon_biggrin:

Here's one for you you to ask Miss Houston, Dayna....what happened to the tracks recorded with Van McCoy, as referenced in this Tom Moulton column from Billboard????

Yikes it took me a long time to find this!!!! :icon_rolleyes:

    DISCO MIX by Tom Moulton

    Column #72: 3/20/76

Thelma Houston has just finished recording four sides at Media Sound N.Y. with producer Van McCoy and Motown will be releasing a single soon. The sides are all uptempo and picking one will be difficult.

Oooo ... that's a great question Marky ......wouldn't it be something if she confirms there's some hidden away project done with him ???

Now I 'm always wanting to know things disco .....especially whether there's any lingering dirt behind the disco .....

So I'd really be interested to learn if Thelma Houston is aware of how it came to be that Motown decided to do this remake of DON'T LEAVE THIS WAY . As far as I know .... (?) .. this may be the only Philadelphia International song that Motown recorded as their own output ... (???) ..... certainty one of very few.And I believe at this same time Gamble and Huff were wooing away The Jackson Five from Motown as well.

So was there any particular heightened awareness around this recording session about this being A PIR song that Thelma was doing ?? Was it controversial ... or no big thing ? Did they ( who exactly? ) just feel the song was too good to pass up ? ......???...... Did they know then and there they had a hit right out of the box?
Surely Thelma listened to Teddy's version .... and if so how did that effect her own approach to the song ???

Thank You Thelma ..... your sentimental yet full throttle rendering of DLMTW provided an incomparable dance floor experience. :icon_cool:

Well if Thelma gets angry over the Van McCoy stuff we can always blame it on Mary so Marky will be safe!

lol..Not a typo...The interview was fantastic.Thelma is a DOLL~!!!! I didnt get to ask your question because The cable man was at her house and she was moving and doing the interview all at once ..I'm sowwy... It was of a very involved question"A very good one" but I dont think she could have wrapped her mind around it at that perticular time..

I submitted my Brief Gloria Gaynor interview to Bernie today as well..The Thelma Houston and Gloria Gaynor interviews are on My blog on myspace if anyone wants a first read..
