    Discovering Rare 80's Disco Gems

I've found a lot of great forgotten and unknown disco songs from the 1980's on Youtube lately. A user named videobuff has put about 700 12" singles from his collection online in their entirety. Every day I'm finding great stuff in his collection and just wanted to share this info with everyone here. You can't download, but this is a fantastic resource for
anyone who was always wondering about a particular song and wanted to hear it or just want to discover material that slipped through the cracks BITD.
I wish someone out there could/would do the same with their 70's collection.

Norm: that's very nice of you to share this information. What style of music from the 1970s are you looking for? Where I live in Northern California pop and rock records from the 1970s are abundant.

I'd love to be able to browse through hundreds of 70's 12" singles and disco album cuts which people consider of high merit...particularly rare and overlooked tracks.
The beauty of what videobuff has done is to put a huge archive in one place so you can go to his member information page and click on "see all videos from this user" and go exploring and listening for hours. He has so many records I never heard of or knew existed before, and loved many of them at first listen. I'm sure there's a lot of disco music out there I missed from the 70's and I'd like to discover.

    Hi Normvork.

Actually you can download from Youtube.

It is slightly complicated but easy enough once you learn how.

The url in the bar at the top of your browser will say something like:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?/v=B$AZgLow04

if you insert "kiss" before "youtube"

    example: http://www.kissyoutube.com/watch?/v=B$AZgLow04

and press the go button you will be taken to a new screen.

Scroll down a bit and there is a "download now" button.

Right click on this. (It has to be a RIGHT click)

and a little screen will pop up.

Left click on "Save Link As"

Another screen will pop up asking you to "Save As"

you have to insert your own file name. In the above case it the video is The O'Jays "Back Stabbers"
You can call it whatever you like but the important thing is that the

    filename MUST end with .flv

    example: O'Jays-Back Stabbers.flv

below the file name there is another box, "save as type". This usually says "HTML Document". Change this to "All Files".

Then click on "Save" and the video file will download to your computer.

You haven't finished just yet. You will need to download a free FLV player from the net and install that on your computer.

There is a link on the Kissyoutube page just below the "download now" button for FLV players.

There are a couple available. "FLV Player" and "VLC Media Center" are the two I use.

Now you can download Youtube vids to your heart's content.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Tim Tam
