    Quiz on This

The story goes that when Grace Jones first wrote the lyrics to what later became her biggest hit, they were, well, **** She tried again and had a chart topper.

    1) What's the name of Grace's song?

    2) What's the name of the group that first had it on a 12" as a mostly instrumental track?

    3) What did this group title their version?

You're real good if you get all this :D

IF YOU FOLLOW HER ADVICE, I'D BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE ANYTHING :)

    2) What's the name of the group that first had it on a 12" as a mostly instrumental track?
THIS WAS A DUAL-ARTIST 12". THE 'A' SIDE WAS The Kick BY Junior Tucker.

    3) What did this group title their version?
IF YOU KNOW THE SONG SAMPLED BY N'Joi FOR THEIR HIT, Anthem, then you've got the title.

Keep those cards and letters coming :D

I believe that the Track is "Pull up to the Bumper" originally recorded by Compass Point all Stars (Sly and Robbie posse with the Amazing Talent of Gwen Guthrie at the vocals)under the form of "Peanut Butter".

OK, smartguy... you can go to Rome now  PECS has done it again. I thought # 2 would be a stopper but if you know Sly Dunbar, then 2 & 3 come together.

For the longest time when N'Joi first came out I couldn't for the life of me remember where that opening line came from: "I'm in love with you/Want you to want me too". Of course, those are Gwen's opening lines to Peanut Butter.

    Spread some on me...

I never knew that Peanut Butter was virtually the same track as Pull Up To The Bumper. How interesting. I always said that Gwen's stuff from '82/'83 sounded like a 'cuddlier' version of Grace's early 80's stuff before I knew this fact!

    Speaking of N-Joi...

"Anthem" came out during that highly annoying period in dance music history where the labels would deliberately not release the best mixes, reserving them for promos only (most notable example: Blackbox). I have never come across the original mix of Anthem that didn't abruptly fade out at the 4-minute mark, and all the later remixes were lame. Buying dance music in the early 90s was soooo frustrating...
