For me, High Inergy didn't blow me away. I really only like that track of theirs Shoulda Gone Dancing. I can't get enough of that song. The 12" is even cooler with the instrumental mix on the B side.
As for Motown never getting the hang of disco, that's a laugh. Especially when some of the earliest examples of disco, like Eddie Kendricks 'Date With The Rain' and 'Girl You Need A Change of Mind' were disco tracks.
I think when people think about Motown, they think about Diana Ross, or Stevie Wonder, or Marvin Gaye, and those artists never really focused on disco. Diana and Marvin did have some true disco tunes, but their output was more of a mixed bag, which isn't a bad thing.
Some of the best disco came out of Motown, especially when they moved out to the west coast and used guys like James Gadson on drums, Melvin Ragin on guitar, etc... And Motown also used Van McCoy and Norman Harris to produce some of their albums, and those guys were totally on the disco tip during the 70s.
