There was a song circa 1984-1985 called "It should have been me". Yvonne Fair did a remake in the 1990's. Does anyone know who the singer is who did the original version?

I don't know who did the remake in the 90's but Yvonne Fair did the original in 1975, Motown, The Bitch is Black album. The 80's version you're thinking of is probably Jayne Kennedy, 1984 12" on Profile records. Maybe I'm confusing here, but I'm sure that "It should have been me" in its original form was recorded WAY back 1975, exactly in 1968 by Gladys Knight And The Pips. My Favourite version (by the way) is the 1991 one by ADEVA, she start the track in downbeat tempo and after a couple of lines she start screaming: "This is not the way I wanna do it" and the Garage/House beats start to pump.

PECS is right of course, and Marky has mentioned this at least a thousand times :) , that Gladys had it in 1968 and later, Kim Weston. It's just that when I think of this song, especially in relation to club music, it belongs to Yvonne. She had the hit with it.

Just wanted to thank every one for their help. The version that I remember is the Jayne Kennedy one. As soon as I read the name, it came back to me. Does anyone know if it is available on a CD?

OMG! I'm still doing this. All these years, EVERYTIME someone asked me about this song I would say Jayne Kennedy, thinking about the model.
