On the heels of the "Disco era ballads" thread, I've recently been trying to compile a list of the best slow jams of the early 80s. I'm hoping to enlist some help.

Here's the list I have so far. Quite short but you get the idea:

On a side note, does anyone know where to get copies of Billboard's R&B charts from the early 80s? I recall many years ago the library having microfiche copies of each magazine issue, but they don't any more. I want to look at each chart, not just the "year end" "top of" versions.

Some of the items on your list extend into the mid-to-late 80s, Anita Baker and the Jets, for example. But they're great songs nonetheless.

Years ago, I put together a playlist of ballads of this type from 1984-86. At 77 minutes, it fits perfectly on a CD. My wife and I will sometimes listen to this CD when we are.... uh, feeling romantic. :icon_twisted:

Hi Gang,

There was this terrific medley of 80s Slow Jams, R&B and Disco slow songs. I had the 12" but for the life of me I can't remember the title??? I think it was a cover band doing all the greatest lovey-dovey tracks but I swear it ended with Kiss and Say Goodbye.

Anybody out there remember. I will post this query on Name That Tune too but this thread should remember it.
