Re: (Your) Best of Bobby O'

Bobby O is my basics for Hi-NRG. Let me also footprint here:

1, She Has A Way (Bobby O) *the most popular tune
2, Givin' Up (Bobby O) *my No.1 favorite, a nice intro
3, Dancin' (Joy Michael) *a good melody line
4, Passion (The Flirts) *a nice mysterious outro
5, These Memories (Oh Romeo) *a good piano intro
6, Lust Or Love (Malibu) *a powerful vocal
7, Reputation (Bobby O) *uprifting melody lines
8, Shake It Up (Divine) *I like Divine, too:)
9, Rock Your Baby (Fascination) *a nice remake
10, Just A Gigolo (Barbie & The KEns)
*An interesting tune, like Private Idaho by B-52's

By the way, I cannot figure out what the robot voice in Passion's outro (12'') says. It would be highly appreciated if anyone help interpret

All I can remember as an outro in a computer voice is :-

    Passion - Passion - Passion - Passion :icon_confused:

He's the lyrics maybe this will help

INTRO PASSION - PASSION - PASSION - PASSION

I'm waiting for you baby, It's time for show and tell
A Prisoner I was captured I'm under your spell
I want to be your woman, come on and by my man
This feeling that I have for you, I understand
    Passion...........Passion

This dream of love is restless, It really is so strong
I wanna give you all my love before it's too far gone
Our love is like a lion, It's hungry for it's prey
Come on and show you'r lovin', I really can't wait
    Passion..........Passion ...........Passion.............Passion

Oh I'm ready for your Passion

I really do think that Passion by the Flirts is one of the best records of the 80s, not just the best Bobby O track.

My best Bobby "O" production has to be the 12" Version of One More Chance by The Pet Shop Boys.

At the risk of choosing the predictable ... I have to say for me NATIVE LOVE out weighs PASSION by just a hair . (THESE MEMORIES probably #3 .)

I love the confidence ... the aggressiveness that's projected in much of the Bobby "O" sound of which I think is best expressed through the gravelly almost angry male () voice of NATIVE LOVE .
The step by step slowly I turn line amuses me too ... a borrowed phrase from an old comedy routine involving a pie in the face that is marvelously preserved on an I LOVE LUCY episode ...

I think there's a reference to local celebrity and health guru Jack La Lane in there too .. .. I'm sure the only song disco or otherwise to do so .... :icon_cool: :icon_lol:

you would bring forth this expose ....:icon_razz::icon_evil:

I think this is an example of when "ignorance is bliss" comes into play ... it's hard to fully respect the artistry involved here when one becomes aware of what was actually at play . At the time the sound was new and new was exciting.... but when one realizes that its just someone doing some basic dinkering on a synth ...well it does take away much of the magic.

That is not to say that the music wasn't valid ... at the time this was new and exciting territory being explored ... and the disco attitude toward new has always been "bring it on" :icon_cool:

Still compare that video to this one :

And it isn't hard to understand why one touches the soul more profoundly than the other ...

No that was not the intention, it was aimed at people who are interested in synths!

A lot of people can do this trickery on a keyboard but that doesn't mean they can compose an awesome Disco tune. Bobby can!

I can publish all the ingredients needed to make a Brussel Waffle but that doesn't mean that you can actually bake a decent one :icon_lol:

So, Bobby, you still deserve the 'O'!!!

'My clothes are by Armani and my hair is by Elaine'
'Tiffany and Cartier are telling me the time'
'This Native Love is restless and I'm just not satisfied'..

Well, it wasn't exactly a serious song was it?????? But it's fun.....

As for Jack Your Body.... I'd like to think so, but sadly not.

I like many Bobby Orlando's songs, and it would be hard to choose the one, especially after getting to know closely Tony Marinello who composed a number of records for Bobby O, I have even more respect for his work as a whole.

Whisper to a Scream by Bobby O & Claudja Barry does it for me.

In the 80's my fav Bobby-O tracks were:

    1) Eric - Who's Your Boyfriend
    2) New York Models - Fashion
    3) Bobby Orlando - Whisper To A Scream
    4) Roni Griffith - Desire

    7) Claudja Barry - Work Me Over
    8) Wow - Bring On The Men
    9) Flirts - Helpless
    10) Miss Kimberly - Dj Girl

Nowadays (after not having listened to, or hearing much Bobby-O during the 90's) a whole different picture:

    1) Roni Griffith - Spys (Love the wrong spelling as well :-)
    2) Nadia Cassini - Obsessed
    3) Oh Romeo - Light Of Love
    4) Hotline - Guilty
    5) Bonnie Forman - I Only Have Eyes For You
    6) Bobby Orlando - I Cry For You
    7) Oh Romeo - Lookin Out
    8) Teenrock - Spy Dance
    9) Roni Griffith - Love Is The Drug
