    Doobie Brothers: Listen to the music

    Hi:

    The other day I was listenning at the FM the song "Listen to the music" by the Doobie Brothers.

    BTW: a beautiful tune.

    As English is not my native language and also considering that they use a lot of slang in the lyrics, I was wondering, do this song have, by any chance, any reference to gay behavior or gay people?

    If so, in what part of the lyrics is this reference?

    Thanks a lot,:icon_smile::icon_smile:

    hmmm...I don't think so...The Doobie Brothers were pretty darn straight...but without looking at the lyrics...I just thought it was about having a good time...listening to the music--just a feel-good type tune.

    Why would you think there was a gay subtext??? :icon_question:

    Hi Marky:

    No. Nothing that I have already suspected. Just because some gay people I know like this music.

    I was just speculating. Never mind!!

    This reminds me a lesbian friend I had. Every single time she was passionate about this or that singer, she ended stating "and he/she's gay!". She even tried to convince you some duet records were by real gay couples. I'm not sure she was aware of this thing. :icon_rolleyes:
    It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

    I love the Doobie Brothers, have even performed some of their songs in our band; but I don't think that the lyrics in "Listen to the Music" is an inference to gayness or the gay culture.

    Truly a rock/pop/TOP 40 song, definitely not disco, but came out in the infancy of the disco era. Disco also had a profound effect on this group, causing them to change their formats numerous times.

    Good song, but no, not gay!
