    Tarantino's jukebox

Titan Books has published "Grindhouse - the sleaze-filled saga of an exploitation double feature", a huge volume with interviews, behind the scenes photos, production artwork etc- pretty much everything a fan of the Quentin Tarantino-Robert Rodriquez masterpiece could hope for. The book has a page on the jukebox featured in the scenes set in The Texas Chili Parlour of the "Death Proof" segment. The box belongs to Tarantino himself, and listed are the 50 seveninchers stocked inside. You'd think it would be all dirty surf tunes and Dick Dale and Bob Dylan, with maybe one Isaac Hayes cut thrown in. "Theme From Shaft" is there all right, right at the top as track number one. But behold: as the second entry, he has "You're my first, the last, my everything" by Barry White, and coming up are Amii Stewart: Knock On Wood, Donna Summer: Love To Love You Baby, Michael Zager Band: Let's All Chant, Santa Esmeralda: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Jigsaw: Sky High, and most amazingly, "Theme From SWAT/Oh Girl" by T.H.P. Orchestra. I never even heard about that record, I thought "Fighting on the side of love" was the ork's first realese. A humbling experience for sure. - The rest is the expected, plus some funk tracks like Brothers Johnson, but still, 8 out of 50 is not bad at all. It's great to see the offically coolest guy in America has taste in not just films. So, take note all you hipsters on the campuses, coffee houses and the rest of the country!

Well that Box sounds more Funkaaaay then the real soundtrack. BTW, I haven't seen it, but people strongly recommend that pic to me as it has "Everything that turns MOI on!", so they say.

The thing about Tarrentino movies is that not only are
they ever disappointing(for me,at least)but you know the
music is always perfect. Can you ever hear "Stuck In The
Middle With You" again and not think of Reservoir Dogs?
Or in Jackie Brown(my fave of his) where Minnie Rippertons "Inside My Love" plays in the bar? And in a dark
theater mesmorized by the Lucy Lui fight scene in Kill Bill
to hear the flamenco tappings of Santa Esmerelda-well,it
gave me goosebumps.I haven't seen Grindhouse(it came and went too fast) but I love the Smith track and T Rex's
Jeepster-hopefully the DVD is out soon?

I think SWAT was on THP's first LP, called 'Early Riser' from '76. The title track is a nice little groover. I don't recall the flip side as being Oh Girl, on the single. My copy has a short version on one side (radio edit) and long version (LP version) on the flip. All they do is repeat the middle section groove.

A number of tracks from that first LP were remixed and put onto the 2 Hot For Love LP. Fighting On The Side of Love was never put on an LP, as far as I recall. They just put out a 7" and a 12" both with instrumental B sides, and that was in '77.

Who knows, with QT's taste on movie B-genres, maybe we can expect him to direct a disco movie sometime! :icon_cool:

That certainly would make me go to a theater

Jackie Brown sure had some Soul/Disco feel. Maybe T can actually do a good Disco pic! But he seems to be more Soul/Funk orientated. Wonder if he can handle, let's say, some Sylvester?????

What about a Sylvester bio from the book I read last year? And who
    would play our hero-heroine?
