I received my copy of Thelma Houston's new Cd Today

Today I received my copy of Thelma Houston's
A Woman's Touch and Press kit in the mail from her management company MilesHighProductions.
so I could review it before I interview her.
I was pleasantly pleased with the CD,My favorite track's being
    DiscoHeat,Mighty Real,The Sylvester cover and
Love and Happiness,The Al Green Cover.
The entire Cd is good, It has Thelma's soulful signature sound without trying to act as though she's 25 again, she's graceful ,unstrained and a joy to listen to,
I recommend it to Thelma fans sincerly.
In her press kit it states that she will be targeting the Urban AC and the Gay/Dance Lifestyle communities..I can assume the song she will be selling to the Gay Dance community will be her rendition of Sylvester's
Disco Heat/Mighty Real..because If Jody Watley can have a number 1 hit with her remake of Chic's I Want Your Love I believe if Thelma gets the right person to remix this song she can have billboard dance success with this song as well.
I will also be posting my interview with Thelma as soon as it is completed..should be very soon..
    Thank you, Dayna

I didn't get my copy yet :icon_twisted: LOL

I've heard some of the tracks on

    MySpace.com - Thelma Houston - Los Angeles, California - Soul / R&B / Pop - www.myspace.com/thelmahouston

and the stuff is simply great. It's the Thelma we know and love but with a modern touch. Very Disco but more Housy.

Very curious bout the whole album.

Please, say hello to Miss Houston from us

Re: I received my copy of Thelma Houston's new Cd Today

I just recently got the Japanese import of her first album--the sublime Sunshower with Jimmy Webb. It's such an insanely good set (even if I grant you nothign remotely disco) it made me re-appreciate this woman all the more. Can't wit to give this cd a chance...

I'm tryign to track down her 1980 album Track of the Cat (I think it's called) half of which was a return with Jimmy Webb but one that many people claim had some disco influence--sounds interesting...

(Webb of course wrote Mac Park though I'm nto sure if he ever wrote anything originally disco)

As usual, Dayna is correct...I just downloaded the Thelma Houston album from iTunes, and it's marvelous! Not a bad track in the bunch. It's going into heavy rotation immediately. It's so great to have Thelma back, and in such fine voice. Highly recommended!

(Eric, the album you're looking for is "Breakwater Cat." "Track of the Cat" was a Dionne Warwick album.)

I saw Thelma Houston in Dallas at a "straight club" and she was waiting by the side by herself to be introduced. Here I go wandering toward her and just telling her how i really liked her music. I had a Bud Lite in my hand and i touched her forearm. I think she freaked out cause she never said a thing back. I was so embarassed about it that I couldn't even enjoy the concert. Sorry Ms. Houston. This is the only memory I have of this night. And no I didn't have more than 4 beers.:icon_redface::icon_cry:

ohhh, I feel your pain & shame!!! :icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redface: always a bad idea to approach a performer BEFORE they go on...afterwards, basking in the glow of audience love, they are more receptive to approaches from the "little people."

But then again, it depends on the DIVA--this would be a good question for Dayna, who seems to deal with DIVAS on a daily basis....

Some love the attention...some just want their damn check and to get the hell outta there and go home....

Oh Pepper! Let me tell you a story that I don't ever speak
of EVER-Marky and Miss Dayna both will appreciate it and
hopefully Pepper this will help to comfort you.Years and
years ago when Stevie Nicks was doing small, intimate tours to promote the just released Bella Donna I had tickets to see her at the Palladium in Los Angeles. It was
before the show started and I was standing in the aisle
talking to my friends. The music was playing and the Stones "Start Me Up" blared out of the speakers and 10
feet in front of me I saw a wild shake of black hair.It was
Diana Ross! She was shaking and snapping to the song, near some people right in front of me.Now my two
friends that I was with knew that my first LP I owned when
I was 5 was "Meet the Supremes"-the sun rose and set with Miss Ross/The Boss."Go say hello"they urged"you LOVE her" At this point all logic left me-I was dizzy with
being so close to a Goddess. With the buzz of a cocktail
in me,I stumbled towards her.She stopped laughing and
throwing her head back, whispered something to her friends and walked away-leaving me standing alone, red
faced.I turned to my friends and shrugged."Bitch!" they
hissed, but I was devastated and heartbroken.I told my other Ross friend that wasn't there that night what happened the next day.I felt like one of her workers in Mahogeny when she snapped "Do-ee Do-ee!!!"dismissing me-only he would appreciate it this comparisom.I refused
to buy any Ross for one year(it was the 80's-not a huge sacrifice)and it wasn't until years later did I get over it and realize not all celebrities want to be bothered with the likes of me.Now if I see someone famous,I smile and keep
    walking!

Oh Thom...I can totally identify....sometimes it's just best to smile and walk on by....better to worship them from afar than to have your dreams dashed in person....I've never met Miss Ross...I've been close enough to "reach out & touch" her in Lake Tahoe...BUT I WOULDN'T DARE!!!!

To know some celebrities/actors is not to love them....once I've had a bad encounter, I can never look at their work objectively....I just remember what a pain they were....:icon_rolleyes::icon_cry:

OMG! Thank you for sharing that story, Thom!

That must have felt horrible. I'm so sorry!

My strongest impression of seeing Diana live was from the first time, at a medium-sized venue. She did a big sanctimonious and self-serving intro to "Reach Out And Touch." And then she made a huge production of the fact that she deigned to actually walk out into the audience. Reach out and touch somebody's hand. Make this world a better place... Try a little kindness, if you can. But every fan who reached out to touch her was met with a defensive dodge, an icy stare, and/or a swift smack to the arm with her microphone. Your friends were right: TOTAL bitch.

Cyndi Lauper and Chris Isaak and Prince and... well, lots of other performers appear able to go out into the audience and remember that they are of the same species as the audience members.

What a piece of work Diana is. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.
This is my story -- I ain't ashamed to tell it:
I was hungry, and tired, and looking for love...

    I HATE that phenomenon!

Gin Blossoms were one of my favorite groups of the 80's or 90's or whatever that was. And they came to a tiny venue in my town. I had great seats. The band was tight. The concert should have been heaven for me. But the lead singer repeatedly revealed himself to be a pompous, stupid, self-inflated diva/poseur/whatever. Total a-hole.

I think it was three -- maybe four -- years after that that I finally pulled a Gin Blossoms CD out of the rack and dropped it into the player. Prior to the concert, that CD lived in the player.

    ******.

Thanks thommy2458 for the story. I don't think I would've ever gone to that Diva, she scares me. You got some big balls. Terri Nunn from Berlin and from "Thank God It's Friday" was pretty nice when I saw her in concert. I touched her shoulder and she reached for my hand and gave me an air kiss.

People worry too much about what Diva's ,entertainers etc think..
To all that have had a close encounter of an embarrassing kind .Thom, Marky,Pepper ,etc
Famous people are just like anyone else..
It usually isnt a good idea to try and introduce yourself or talk to an entertainer before they go on stage for the mere fact that they are programmed to think about one thing at that moment and one thing only..It's like when someone gives you a phone number over the phone and you dont have any paper to write it on so you have to memorize it.. you ,or atleast I anyway will usually hang up without saying goodbye so as not to interupt my train of thought as to memorizing the number..That is exactly how the artist feels before he or she walks out on stage.
as for Diana.. She has this rep of being a big bitch and having a bad attitude but I have never encountered it ,What people have to understand is that all she wants to do is go out somewhere and be treated normally and not have to say oh thank you , I love you too, blah blah blah every 3 seconds. She wanted to enjoy that concert just like everyone else there, plus I'm sure she had had a cocktail or two:icon_eek:and is always a little more paranoid and protective when doing so.
Bottom line, dont be embarrassed about any of these encounters because chances are they dont remember them anyway..The best way to handle a Diva is to be one yourself~!!!
Play on an equal playing field and act unaffected
and very "charmed I'm sure" the more you fawn and compliment them more it annoys them.
Give one compliment if nessaccery and dont fawn or fuss..
