Oh Pepper! Let me tell you a story that I don't ever speak of EVER... She stopped laughing and throwing her head back, whispered something to her friends and walked away-leaving me standing alone, red faced. I turned to my friends and shrugged. "Bitch!" they hissed, but I was devastated and heartbroken. I told my other Ross friend that wasn't there that night what happened the next day. I felt like one of her workers in Mahogeny when she snapped "Do-ee Do-ee!!!" dismissing me - only he would appreciate it this comparisom.
OMG! Thank you for sharing that story, Thom!
That must have felt horrible. I'm so sorry!
My strongest impression of seeing Diana live was from the first time, at a medium-sized venue. She did a big sanctimonious and self-serving intro to "Reach Out And Touch." And then she made a huge production of the fact that she deigned to actually walk out into the audience. Reach out and touch somebody's hand. Make this world a better place... Try a little kindness, if you can. But every fan who reached out to touch her was met with a defensive dodge, an icy stare, and/or a swift smack to the arm with her microphone. Your friends were right: TOTAL bitch.
Cyndi Lauper and Chris Isaak and Prince and... well, lots of other performers appear able to go out into the audience and remember that they are of the same species as the audience members.
What a piece of work Diana is. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.
This is my story -- I ain't ashamed to tell it:
I was hungry, and tired, and looking for love...
