I was surprised not tofind Love Hangover listed anywhere in your number ones list. Sure Miss Ross reached no 1 in the Disco chart in 1976?
    Can you confirmed!

I'm at work, so I don't have the charts in front of me. As I recall "Love Hangover" peaked at #2. Something BIG (Trammps, Bee Gees???) kept it from getting to #1, although it placed very high in the year-end list.

    I'll check later.

Yeah, Miss Ross was #3 on the 1976 year-end list. I'd guess the Trammps "Where The Happy People Go" kept it from reaching #1. The Trammps were #1 for several months, if I recall. Also, remember this was a New York chart at this point. Billboard didn't merge other cities into the final list until later that year. (last week of July, 1976??) Something like that...anyway "You Should Be Dancing" by The Bee Gees was the first NATIONAL #1.

Well thanks for the clarification regarding Diana Ross. Since you are "on Line" After I read your list of Billboard number one, I bought a copy of the South Shore Commission original 1975 album in a second hand record shop in London, containing Free Man which was no1 for 5 wks. I thought it did sound a little like the Village People and then I found this little article :

"Free Man," an utterly real lyric about relationships, had no chance of being recorded by anybody on the masculinity-obsessed Philadelphia International label because of its gay theme. The Commission had no such reservations and took the song to #9 in the R&B Chart in late 1975. The extended version became a sought-after classic thanks to the breakdown by Instant Funk, their finest moment on wax prior to "I've Got My Mind Made Up" years later. "A Train Called Freedom" and a cover of "We're On the Right Track" finished off their chart ride.

In regards to "Love Hangover", it did indeed peak at #2 on the NY Disco chart. The Trammps' "Where The Happy People Go" was the record that kept it from hitting #1; then Donna Summer's "Love Trilogy" took over #1 and the Trammps pushed Miss Ross to #3. Those 3 records were #1, 2 & 3 for quite a while back in the spring of 1976.

"Love Hangover" was a #1 Pop & R&B hit in the U.S., however.

Now, I went over to Allmusic and checked the stats in their Billboard chart listings for "Love Hangover" and they say it WAS a #1 Club Play & #1 Disco Single.

I don't know where they got these stats cause I see with my own two eyes that it was never #1 in New York. It may have been a #1 in another city that they listed (LA) and that may have allowed them to list that it was a #1 Club Play or Disco single. It's tricky, before they formed the National chart in the middle of 1976, to accurately compile the Disco chart #1's.

    Fabio,

If you're in Italy, check with Mr. Giovanni. The copies I have originally came from him, I do believe.
