Didn't hear the whole list... but for me the definitive Prince-for-hire track is, hands down, "Manic Monday" for The Bangles.
A beautiful recording, also.
Videoskooter put a great list together of songs that Prince has written for others in the thread: http://www.discomusic.com/forums/showthread.php/25124.
So what is your favorite Prince cover or song written by Prince for another artist (i asked the question in the thread above, but it warrants its own thread?
Some of my favorites
Chaka Khan - Feel for U
Sheila E - Love Bizarre, the Glamorous Life
Time - The bird, jungle love
sheena easton - sugar walls
vanity 6 - nasty girl
Art of Noise/Tom Jones - Kiss

Too bad it's a slowed down version of "1999" or as you wish an accoustic version of the apocalyptic purplejam!
Can I as a Prince devotee just turn the stone (just in this reply) and give my favourite Prince song when He (and he almost never does that on his albums) did a cover of somebody else's song
And these are my favourites which He has written for others:

2 bad there ain't no clip for "Scarlet Pussy" Miaow
Hey wait a minute, just made 1
Once upon a time in the land of fever, there lived a scarlet pussy
This kitty cat of fine descent, was cherished by her mother
Who wouldnt let another, pet her, unless he was qualified
Every 1st of the month this pretty feline got the hots
And thats when the neighborhood (d-d-dogs)
Theyd line up around the block
Meow
When my little scarlet feline roars
The locals come around (come around)
When they see the scarlet light
They know its time to come chase her down (chase her down)
Lo and behold the fantastical way
In which their bodies groove
My scarlet pussys furry magic alters any mood
Scarlet pussy (its cool)
Scarlet pussy
Pussycat, pussycat
Wherefore art thou, puppy?
She can make u crazy if ure too close to her heat
She can make u sad when ure happy as can be
She can make u shoot your ego all over her sheets
All is hers in love and war, my little scarlet pussy
Every dog would try his lines
To get pussys attention ([...])
All they want is so exposed
In ways too gross to mention (eew!)
Green virgin teenager
A filthy rich yuppie
Pussycat pussycat
Wherefore art thou puppy?
Scarlet pussy
She can make u crazy if ure too close to her heat
She can make u sad when ure happy as can be
She can make u shoot your ego all over your sheets
All is hers in love and war, my little scarlet pussy
Meow
Now whats going on?
Oh, no, man, look out!
Somebody come get this meow-meow of my leg!
Meow!
Scarlet pussy
Pussycat pussycat
Wherefore art thou, puppy?
Meow
She can make u crazy if ure too close to her heat
She can make u sad when ure happy as can be
She can make u shoot your ego all over her sheets
All is hers in love and war, my little scarlet pussy
All is hers in love and war, my little scarlet pussy
She can make u happy, she can make u sad
She can make u crazy (crazy)
She can make u shiver from your head down to your feet
She can make u shoot your ego all over her sheets (oh!)
She can make u crazy if ure too close to her heat
She can make u sad when ure happy as can be
She can make u shoot your ego all over her sheets
All is hers in love and war, my little scarlet pussy
Signing of for 2nite with this romantic 1 while I go see what my wife is wearin':
"When he was there, sleeping 'tween the two of us..."
My favorite Prince cover is "When You Were Mine" by Cyndi Lauper.
When Prince sang about being so desperate to hold onto his partner that he would even be friends with her lover, it was heartbreaking. When Cyndi sang the same lyrics, there was a whole new dimension of complexity and pain.
But I also love "Kiss" by Art of Noise/Tom Jones.
For me, the connection actually is with "Raspberry Beret" from Around the World in a Day. Were released about the same time, and basically have the same rhythm track. Also "Manic Monday" has a lot of the psychedelic sound of that album.
Now Johan, how come yo' reccomend a lyrics with the word "pussy"? Some people in other thread will go fckin' medieval man! :icon_razz:
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
Incredible track! Here's the spyvid
In fact there's a very interesting mash up of that 1.
Nano, as you know I'm a proud member of PETA. I help to protect the animals, especially the pussies
You know, thiZ really iZ my all time fave Prince trek! My personal theme song!!!
I once played "D.M.S.R." at a party and that party jumped OFF. I'm quite tired of most of Prince's biggest hits (the one exception being the spare, bone-chillin' "Kiss"). My favorite songs of his are obscure album tracks and b-sides: "Irresistable Bitch", "She's Always in my Hair" (by Something for the People), "Housequake", "Forever in my Life", "Head", "Dirty Mind", Mariah Carey's cover of "The Beautiful Ones", "We Can Funk" (with George Clinton) and "Damn U", to name just a few.
As you probably already know, the studio version appears on Cyndi's 1983 album, "She's So Unusual."
I think it's very cool that Cher released a "same sex" version of her 2000's hit, "Strong Enough." I think it's even cooler that Cyndi included her no-pronouns-changed version of "When You Were Mine" on her debut album 20 years prior to "Strong Enough".
Oops. Oh, yeah. Cher had done her quietly subversive "wrong pronouns" version of "The Way of Love" 20 years before THAT.
Sorry. The whole "same sex" lyric thing is probably worthy of another thread. I don't mean to derail this one. On with the discussion of His Purpleness!
This is my story -- I ain't ashamed to tell it:
I was hungry, and tired, and looking for love...
Check out 'Why Should I Love You' on the CD 'The Red Shoes' by Kate Bush from 1993. Prince is all over this stormin' track and although there are no writing credits, with it's purple references He must surely have had some input. I seem to remember reading somewhere at the time that it was scheduled for single release but was blocked by The Purple One. Also features vocals by 'comedian' Lenny Henry.
