After all, that's what this thread is all about....:icon_confused:
Yes, but not the complete song, it was part of a medley. I don't know if you were ever at the proms but all the featured artists do a sort of mini concert and as you know Chic has many hits! But they gave a free concert in Brussels some time ago and there they did the whole forbidden thang! They still groove you know, it was a smashing gig!

Ehmmm, yes I was there, it's filmed at the hotel and a guy from the management got us in. I shook hands with Mr. Rodgers when he was on his way out. I spoke a few minutes with Mr. Darnell (The Kid) and some 15 minutes with one of the Coconuts :icon_lol::icon_mrgreen:

I love the explosions too. They are only on the long version I think as the single fades before that point.

Saw CHIC again about 3 years ago when they headed a 'best disco in town' line up that included Candi Staton, Pointer Sisters, Evelyn King,Three Degrees, and erm.........Boney M!! The definitely played
"My love is forbidden, we keep our love hidden".

Back in the day when I saw them I really loved the little wiggle that the girls on the 'Chic strings' did whilst doing the mid string bits in 'I want your love'

Would also have loved to have been at the Proms gig and party

A lot of Chic's music is good. Ther one of my favorites.

And by the way, I was at a club in Miami and they were playing Chic Cheer. But it wasnt the original version. It was a new rap song. I was probably the only one there who knew this.

Gee Whizz! It was those 'explosive/low down dirty bass hits' that got my fellow DJs in Southampton and I, excited. They were pure, orgasmic, 12" sex on vinyl!! The money notes, without a doubt.

    Two things I don't understand:
1- Why the 6:23 version is not the lp version? It would have fit perfectly on the album instead of the 4:42 version. I prefer the long version with its vocal intro and its disco break.
2- Why the 12" version is not available on cd, even on the excellent «Dance dance dance» collection issued in 1991 (one with «Everybody dance» in its 12" form; but «Soup of one» in its 7" edit, it's true)?

    Re: Chic- My Forbidden Lover

But is Chic really Chic without Bernard playing the bottom?

I thought Nile Rodgers had an interesting take on the guitar. Not only did he like to do the scratching strumming style in every song, I don't recall any Chic production featuring guitar with effects on it. For example, did Nile ever put a wah effect on his guitar on any Chic production (Diana Ross, Sister Sledge, etc... in addition to Chic)?

Thanks for the heads up on the My Forbidden Lover 12". I have a few Chic 12"s, and they all feature the same mixes as the LP version, as far as I know. So this remix is unique. Did they do any other disco-era 12" where the mix on the single was different from the LP?

Of their Atlantic era 12"'s, the only other one that differs from the LP version is "Everybody Dance". The only real difference is in running time only. The LP version runs 6:40, while the 12" released in the US only as a rare DJ promo runs 8:25. Though this longer version has been released on 12" in a few foreign territories and on their 1979 greatest hits album, the US promo 12" is still highly sought after.

A few faves of mine :

Video CHIC you are beautiful - chic, you, are, beautiful, funk - Dailymotion Share Your Videos

Video Nile Rodgers . State Your Mind - CAPTAINFUNKonTheRADIO, SoulFunk - Dailymotion Share Your Videos

Chic's strong harmonised chants/choruses have been a big influence and blueprint for the camp of the late Fred Jacques Petrus
    ( BB&Q Band / Change / High Fashion / Peter Jacques Band / Zinc ) , and some other independent Italian artists/groups ( Flowchart / Kano / etc ).

Video Flowchart - Are you single - flowchart, single, rare, funk - Dailymotion Share Your Videos

And of course Fonzi Thornton sang background on a few albums of these groups.
Nile & Nard produced and performed for some tracks of his debut-album :

It is no coincidence that ( the producers of) Change took that name!
They wanted to be next to the Chic albums in the record store, in the "C" section of every music store, AND they wanted to sound a bit different (but not to much of course), hence the name Change......!!

Bassplayer Barry "Sunjohn" Johnson performed some years ago on one of the tightest live-shows i've seen in the last few years.
And besides that the late Nard's bass-style is one of a kind for Chic's trademark-sound and legendary in music history ,
Barry deserves many props where due for laying down a solid bottom at Chic's shows.

One of Barry's first recording-gigs was in the late 70's with the group Twennynine from jazzfunk-drummer Lenny White.
Around 1982 he became part of the Family Tradition Band formed by Twennynine-keyboardist Don Blackman.
One or a few years after that he toured with Jeffrey Osborne's band , and occasionally did some leadsinging during the band-introduction of Jeffrey's band.
Brother can sing as well and there's some of that recorded.

Before Barry started performing with Chic , there was another great bassplayer part of the live-tours.
His name is Jerry Barnes ( pictured right here below ) and he used to be part of the group Juicy including his sister Katreese Barnes ,
which caught attention in the R&B-charts around 1985 with their single "Sugar Free".

I personally think that Chic might present themselves as a top-quality live-band in the first place these days , and i'm not shure if Nile has any plans to record with Chic ,
or if he and the band are currently doing studio-recordings for any new tracks of an optional fortcoming album.
Also the tight beats of the late Tony Thompson are unique , and it's such a sad loss that him and Nard left us far too soon. I hope they're both jamming somewhere in another galaxy.
Session-drummer Omar Hakim does an excellent job as well on the Chic-shows.
Here beneath he is doing a soundcheck for the Montreux Jazz Festival , together with Barry Johnson and Fonzi Thornton :
