I'm sure that all of you are aware of the track released by The Aleems in 84' called Release Yourself, a block rockin, killer track. However, last year I discovered that Roy Ayers had also recorded a track of the same name, which I discovered upon purchasing an album of his previously unreleased material. The tracks are clearly different, but possess some very intriguing similarities, such as the identical vocal pattern that is throughout the Aleem track and found near the end of the Ayers track, where it goes 'Release!' I had never questioned the Aleem's legitimacy and authenticity, but now I am beginning to wonder. The latest track of Ayers album was released in 81, so the Aleems, it would seem, have pilfered this vocal hook. But, how the hell could they have done that when the recording was unreleased until a year or two ago!!!!! Is there some underground connection between the two whereby Roy wsa sharing his unreleased musical output with fellow musicians??? Any leads greatly appreciated....
