They Are Family : Thelma, Cissy and Whit-ney

    *****

    Well I guess not ..... :icon_confused:

Bernie points out in his vault notes that Thelma Houston is not related to Cissy Houston .... who is the mother of Whitney Houston.

Thelma Houston was born Thelma Jackson May 7, 1946 .... ( but no, this does not neither make her family to LaToya) ......
Thelma did not get involved in singing until after having been married and birthing two children ( hey just like American Idol contestants! :icon_razz:) .

I bet that Cissy Houston was none too happy about another artist having her same Houston name. It must have caused much confusion within the two vocalists' careers.

Not that Houston was Cissy's actual name to claim either. She was born Emily Drinkard on September 30th 1933.

..... Which then means that not only is Whitney Houston an oft reported & rumored druggie ....but she's also a Drinkard as well .......:icon_rolleyes:

No...they are not family as you iterate and explain; Thelma is no relation to Cissy and Whitney; but you should have added a non-Houston in there who is in fact "in the family" and that is Dionne Warwick, who I think is a cousin of Cissy and Whitney Houston.

Never liked Dionne's vocals much, but she had her own style and niche within the pop music culture, way before Cissy and her daughter Whitney burst onto the scene.

Thelma and Cissy never caused confusion with me, as Thelma was basically a "one hit wonder" disco artist, while Cissy cruised through the Disco era with various hits (Thelma also had hits); you can say that there careers were neck and neck during that era with neither one over the other, despite them having the same last name and not being any relation to each other.

At any rate, I love them both, especially Cissy.

Check this out because this is AMAZING :

We have two Dinkard sisters who were part of a total group of Dinkard kids totaling eight... raised in Newark New Jersey.

One sister was older . Her name was DEE . The youngest of the eight was little sister EMILY . When Emily was 5 their mother had a stroke and died three years later. Next their father passed from cancer when she was eighteen. Needless to say this was not an easy upbringing for these eight kids .

But check this out .... these two sisters each one day have daughters . Dee has a daughter . Emily later has a daughter.

One sister (DEE) her daughter can really sing and she grows up to become: Dionne Warwick.
The other sister (EMILY ) her daughter ... can also sing and she grows up to be: Whitney Houston.

Two sisters ... one has a kid that becomes Dionne Warwick ... the other a kid who becomes Whitney Houston.

    How incredible is that !!!

And to muddy the waters a little more, Cissy was often credited as 'Emily Houston' in her pre-disco days.
Here she is in that guise providing backing vocals for Van -the - Man :

    Van Morrison : Crazy Love
