Pecs, once again...you've gone to the San Francisco talent pool...so, of course, I know the answer.

"A Good Man Is Hard To Find"
    The Boystown Gang
from "A Cast Of Thousands" LP that featured the "Dance Trance" medley with all those old disco divas singing snippets of their hits. Debbie Jacobs, Jessica Williams, The Weather Girls, and others I can't think of now, were featured.

    Marky,
I love this medley that also features Marlena Shaw & at one point Sylvester doing 'We are Family'! :-? . I think the bit at the end fade out is really strange where the guy sings 'when I was young i'd go out to the disco dancing' because at first you think he's going to sing 'Yesterday Once More' by The Carpenters! I always think that the 'hidden' track after Pet Shop Boys version of 'Go West' on their 'Very' LP was influenced by this bit of the dance-trance medley.

    Steely,

Bill Motley, the producer behind Boystown Gang, was a "cover-boy"....not in the literal sense (He was a fatty...Ok, a "bear", to be kind).

What I mean is...he only seemed to do "covers" or remakes of oldies. "Cruisin The Street" is sort of an exception...except that the bassline is stolen from another record ("Hit N Run" by Loleatta Holloway, if I remember correctly). Anyway, everything else was a cover..even "Disco Kicks" I just found out.

So yes, the end of the "Dance Trance" medley uses the Carpenters' "Yesterday Once More" but instead of singing "when I was young I listened to the radio" the lyric is changed to something about going to "the disco dance".

You could say that when Bill was young, he liked to listen to his old records and now he was gonna remake them for the HI-NRG market.

"Remember Me/Ain't No Mountain High Enough/Can't Take My Eyes Of You/ Come & Get Your Love/ Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours/You're The One/ Disco Kicks/Just Can't Help Believin/Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday/ When Will I See You Again & A Brand New Me were all covered by Boystown Gang. The originals were by Diana Ross/Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell/Frankie Valli/Redbone/Stevie Wonder/Little Sister/ Original Mass/ B.J. Thomas/Stevie Wonder/Three Degrees & Dusty Springfield.

I always thought that at least "Disco Kicks" was an original...BUT NO. Another cover.

Thats interesting Marky as I always assumed that 'Youre The One' & 'Come & Get Your Love' were originals as I'm not aware of any other versions. What type of records were the originals? i.e. pop, soul, rock, c & w etc.

    Steely,

"You're The One" was a 1970 soul record produced by Sly Stone for his "little sister" who sang with the trio. This was a Top 10 R&B record in the U.S. and an early "club song".

"Come And Get Your Love" was a 1974 danceable rock song performed by a Native American group called Redbone. It was a Top 10 Pop hit in the U.S..

    Hi Steely,

The Three Degrees also covered this Sly song in the seventies when they were on the Roulette label. Received a bit of club play over here but wasn't a monster hit.

Thanx Marky & Nicky. I think I'm knowledgeable about music but there's so much I've still got to hear & learn. I s'pose thats what makes it interesting.
