    TV Disco Themes

I'm trying to think of the different TV theme songs from the 70s that were disco-fied. Here's the ones I can think of:

"Different Worlds" (Theme from Angie) - Maureen Mcgovern
    "Makin' It" - David Naughton
    "S.W.A.T" - Rhythm Heritage
    "Love Boat" - Jack Jones
"Wonder Woman" - ? (I know the Wonderland Band did a version...)

Can anyone add to the list? It shouldn't be too long!

    Re: TV Disco Themes

Theme From SWAT was done by a lot of artists around that time. THP Orchestra also did a version. I think the Ventures might have done one too.

Disco Lucy (I Love Lucy Theme) - Wilton Place Street Band
    Theme From CHiPS - Corniche
Theme From Star Trek - Van McCoy; I think Galactic Force Band also did a version
Gotcha (Theme From Starsky & Hutch) - Tom Scott; New York Port Authority.
Theme From Baretta - Sammy Davis Jr (original); Rhythm Heritage
Henri Mancini did an album of TV themes, done dance style, like Police Woman, etc...

How could I forget C.H.i.P.s??? That was a GREAT theme song!

I was thinking more about original tunes, D.F., not remakes.

I thought of another one that *might* qualify (I think it's a little too rough):

    Re: TV Disco Themes

The Starsky & Hutch Theme was done by Tom Scott, but the released version was different from the version in the TV show.

Theme From SWAT in the TV version is not Rhythm Heritage. They just covered the track.

The Ventures ''Theme From Charlie Angels'.
Rhythm Heritage ''Theme From Starsky & Hutch''.
I think Rinder and Lewis composed a TV theme.
The song ''Boogie Motion'' by Beautiful Bend was a TV theme, I guess.

Dynasty wasn't a disco tune, I don't think. (Not the original, TV theme)

But Charlie's Angels! Of course! How could I forget?

Starsky & Hutch...I didn't watch that show so I had to run online and find the original tune. Definitely a 70's sound! More funk than disco, tho', wouldn't you say? But good! I like it!

    Dynasty brought to mind:

Ah Phil...you want original themes that sounded 'Disco' not one ones that got disco-fied later ? More difficult !

A friend refers to most of them as 'magicians music' - i.e. the kind of music they played when a Magician was doing his act - often about three years behind the current sound, very weak and with an over emphasis on the hi hat in the style of 'Disco' like The Boston Pops Orchestra .. the kind of thing that got Disco a bad name ! :icon_biggrin:

I think you're referring to 'Theme From In Search Of...' by the In Search of Orchestra on the In Search Of LP. I think the other track from the same LP, 'Phenomena Theme' is a thousand times better, and more listenable.

    Re: TV Disco Themes

How about the "Dallas" theme, which used disco high-hat to convey the new cosmopolitan image of the south? "Trapper John M.D." stcks in my mind for that reason, and also Pernell Roberts' early perfecting of the bearded-dad look. Kind of a ringer, but "Boogie Motion" is certainly a mainstream oldie because of the popularity of the syndicated "Dance Fever" show, is it not? "TSOP" has got to be the granddaddy of them all.

Nope. This is a remake of the early 70s hit by Gary Glitter (Rock & Roll Part II) - it's not the theme tune for the actual tv series. The theme for Doctor Who which was composed by Delia Derbyshire, was never done disco until well after the disco era.

    Not so sure about that....

    From 1978 , Mankind - Dr Who ?

    Surely that qualifies ??

Oh, and whilst on this thread, the 'Wonder Woman' theme song (here in it's season 3 'discofied' incarnation)......

......was written by Charles Fox & Norman Gimbel - the songwriting duo responsible for "Killing Me Softly With His Song"
    Er, obvious really !!

Yup, that qualifies. I'd forgotten about that one. Funny thing is, there is a site on the net which has upwards and over 100 versions of the Doctor Who theme tune all the way from rock, heavy metal, disco, trance, hiphop, big band, HINRG, and more.

How about this one from Isaac Hayes: Theme from "The Men", 1972-1973 tv show.

And check out Joe Bataan's cover version. I'm not sure this was released b.i.t.d. even though it says, 'lost sessions, 1976'. The album seems to have a date of 2010.

Haven't seen this one mentioned yet. Vegas. Quasi-disco - reminiscent of the "Theme From The Men", but with a very Salsoul Orchestra sounding break in the middle.

Not exactly a TV theme: it's the theme of "Firepower" by the Argentinian Gato Barbieri (1979). One of the greatest movie themes I know, so that is why I'm posting it. This is the short version.
